What level did you make it to? (without ending up in Technique Practice HELL ????)
Hey, i just started on Bass a Month ago and i tried your exercices.
I think i have Bad flying thingers but i don’t no where to put my other Fingers while playing a Note I cant lay them on the String because it will mute it.
And as son as I start playing the First riff, my fingers which don’t Play anything just fly away ????
Im playing 35 years and I still cant use my pinky (Well the last 15 years I have not played much – life)
Ah we poor plec players,we feel so neglected ????nearly every bass tutors have a finger plucking bias, who would play a ramones song as featured using fingers?I would def use finger plucking but the attack on songs like I wanna be sedated needs the plec attack,as do a lot of rock numbers, try it at home with a small practice amp (plec or fingers )and I guarantee you will hear a difference in your attack with a,plec.
This was very helpfull 🙂 Been sucking at bass for a month now in a band….. Unlearning guitar is way harder than youd think
Sorry to be a know-it-all, but when you're pantomiming your voiceovers, don't do it silently, its a dead giveaway. Instead actually speak with yourself and vocalize your sentences. It makes the difference between drawing away the viewers attention from the video and being seemles to the viewer, when lip sync'd propertly with vocalization.
Nobody does bass videos like you, Josh. You are one of the great youtube bass teachers, arguably the best. Don't mistake this critisism as negative feedback. Constructive criticism is just an alternate form of positive feedback.
Love ya
Hi here's a good one for you I want the bass guitar a Fender Squier repainted it put a new front yard on it straighten the neck out refinish the neck all in all to have a beautiful guitar I could even send photo if you'd like here's my problem not too awful long ago I had a broken leg that has nothing to do with it I was on crutches too short for me and fell and shattered my right wrist it was swollen for 8 months and really couldn't be moved all my fingers were almost 2 inches in diameter from swelling all the tendons got shrunk and my fingertips do not like to bend anymore I tried to play my bass with the pick it doesn't sound the same as using your fingers to pluck do you have any suggestions on how I can exercise my right hand and make it pluck a string right anymore my fingertips are always almost straight
I've been playing for a couple of months by now and i literally do every single one of these ;w;
0:13 OMG What a beautiful bass!!! I am wondering how could I get a same bass as shown. Could someone told me the specific model of it????
LoL that is funny n so true. You are the man homie ????????
So uh, how do I fix my pinky- I need help with it, as it's not cooraperating with me (as a person restarting their bass journey) and it's starting to annoy the heck out of me. Can I please get some tips?
MUSE MENTIONNED ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I just started bass like a week ago. I have pretty big hands but No matter what I do I cannot stretch my pinky to fret a note on the E string without major flying fingers. It’s very frustrating.
I love Josh's JB Squier. Is that a custom job or is there a commercially available model like that one?
I pretty much suffer from all these . Been playing for about six months and hitting level 5 on my current online crutch/classes . Some things iron themselves out as you progress because you need some tech as you begin to play more difficult beginner stuff . Im not moving my rested thumb across the strings as much and reaching with plucking fingers instead as an example of being more efficient. Flying fingers are way out control for me and my pinkie likes to pretend lm a snob drinking a cup of tea when not fretting . My pointer finger has a permanent dent in it from smashing it into the fret board …. And it all just gets worse as I’m moving into more difficult and faster playing . On the lift one finger thing, my ring finger is clearly not connected to my brain! It’s time to go to technique hell I guess. As a reference, I can play about half of first 50 songs playlist to 90%ish of the song quickly, but may need to spend a decent amount of time working out the more challenging parts and playing the entire song . Thanks Josh for your efforts and vids, see you at bass buzz in near future.
I'm gonna be honest. I'm struggling with my motivation at the moment zero direction. My adhd makes everything harder.
I've returned to bass. So it's not new to me.
Just got my first bass. I've played the drums for a while but wanted to learn another instrument. I've been going through your videos nonstop. You're an incredible teacher, and you do an excellent job of keeping my invested by adding some comedy into your lessons. I also rarely comment on videos but I had to show my appreciation for your videos. I've already learned lots just from watching you, so thank you so much, Josh!! Can't wait to get continue learning ????
cool shirt! ????
Love this video, loads of stuff I need to work on. You mentioned a free PDF for the lesson but I can't seem to find the link. Thanks and keep up the great work!
you are so helpful
For the flying fingers: make sure the action isn't too high on your bass. It'll take less force to press on the string making it easier for your fingers to stay calm. It's impossible to keep your fingers from flying if your action is crazy high.
What do you have to say about a bass with a short scale for a guitarist? Is it worthy of attention?
I mostly play a regular guitar, but there was a period when I played bass until we got a bass player. Now I sometimes fill in for the bass player when he's not available. But the problem is that at home I have an old 4-string bass with a short scale, with strings high above the neck (I tried fixing them, but they're still high), and it's falling apart, and for performances we have a good 5-string bass. It's very inconvenient. I want to buy a 4-string bass with a short scale so that I can play the instrument I'm used to playing at home (maybe Harley Benton MV-4MSB). I'd also like to record it at home sometimes as a bass.
Are there any pitfalls to avoid being deceived by the convenience and compactness?
He does have a much better hat
0:16 I’m literally holding that bass rn ????
Mate I finally got my bass!
