I’ve said for a while now that I have a gain pedal problem, so it was finally time to take a long hard look at them all and decide what I should part with!

  • I burst out laughing at the "OCD is a transparent overdrive" bit. That thing is a beast, it's basically a light distortion. I've used it on bass a lot and if the gain is over noon it's a complete wall of dirt. Makes for a great Lemmy tone though

  • You should have showed off the secret 4th mode on the behringer super fuzz. The one where you put the switch between fuzzes 1 and 2. Great sounds on that mode!

  • Gotta recommend the MXR ‘78 distortion and a boss sd-1 in front. And also try using your pedals with zero gain, level maximum, eq to taste. Love to hear that experiment. You’re awesome

  • Um .. 6 gain pedals, too many? Looks at drawer dedicated to gain pedals..not sure what my current count is.

  • Push the Bad Monkey into the Ram's Head if you haven't already! Tube Screamer going into a Big Muff is a classic trick to help cut through a mix and will get you the J. Mascis/Dinosaur Jr. sound. Great video and playing!

  • Its definitely worth getting a Jekyll and Hyde v3 the amount of control you have over both drives makes it one of my go to pedals and with a good versatile fuzz id probably be good though I suffer from option paralysis and own like 200 pedals about half are gain options mostly fuzz circuits

  • Fun video. I really love the OCD. To me it has something the others don’t. That son of hyde is a cool one too.

  • Hey man what amp do you use? Is it straight di or is the ac15 that sound so bright? How does the ac15 does at home volume?

  • I myself have stacked my only two gain pedals, the DS-1 and the Tonebug, for nearly two years now. The DS-1 is good low end boost.

  • I absolutely love how we can see you have fun rediscovering why you got these pedals and why you like them in the first place

  • I’m from the 90’s but i couldnt stand my tone with distortion pedals. Always sounded bad to me. I used every distortion box i could find, and wasnt happy until I got a high gain amp.

My distortion pedal hate continued until last year when i got a friedman IRX its a full voltage tube pre amp in a box. Finally the tone I want in a “pedal”

In my cover band sometimes i use distortion pedals into the clean channel to get certain bands sounds, it never feels good unless I’m back to amp distortion.

I love every pedal type except distortion, thats not a pedal job.
