As a bass player of almost a decade, PLEASE avoid all the Dean and Ibanez basses listed here UNLESS you’re just starting out. If you’re looking for a good bass between $100 and $300, an SX Ursa 1 (precision) or 2 (jazz) will do you well for a long time and cost around $150, and an Ibanez SR300 is also a great value, especially when bought used. You can find them for around $200 on most sites, and, if you’re lucky, you might even be able to get one at $125 like I did. I’ve used an SX Jazz bass since 2008 for practice and occasionally gigs. With minor upgrades, it greatly improves.

Step 3: Buy a Warwick or a Fender
Step 4 – 1.000.000: PRACTICE!
