Absolute legend
Rick, can you please ask Tommy the brand of his hearing aids. I want to get my Dad a present. He damaged his hearing in the Army. He is 86. Ty.
Besides being a phenomenal guitar player and composer he just seems to be the nicest guy on the planet and still so passionate at 70. Absolute legend, saw him in Sydney a few years ago and loved every minute
I never figured out why nobody plays Walting Matilda in 3/4 time.
Tommy is awesome man, I look to him as a staple if you will.. his competence with the instrument is a goal I think we could all aspire to reach.
At the 10 minute mark, he plays a very slow song but it sounded in some cords like stairway to heaven?? No? Yes? Not a musician just a fan!!
❤!
It's nice to hear someone like Tommy finds inspiration in Taylor Swift songs.
Please get Leo Kottke on the show!
can someone timestamp where Tommy explains all the secrets
I think we all wish we could struggle with songs like Tommy does when playing Train to Dusseldorf. ????????????
No matter what he plays.
Your gonna get some Chet and classical gas…I'm 52 kids…..been listening to him for some time….Eddy would have killed for his licks and Tommy would have loved to use some of Eddys chops.
…..gotta love it all…and Rick is the Rosetta Stone for us DUMMIES.
The Paul Simon piece Tommy plays at 20.48 sounds like one of the themes within The St. Matthew's Passion by Bach
Just spectacular
Fantastic Rick, the song and tecnics inspire all the time!
From Australia tommy and phil are legends
Fantastic watch. So laid back and informal. Thank you so much.
Tommy reignited my love for guitar many years ago. Love this guy. Absolute Legend.
Tommy said it Rick. You're the great music educator. Bringing music of all generations in to one place. I'm just a year younger, and look up to you.
Tommy, our Aussie hero and legend. I saw him live for the first time in 1988 at the York jazz festival in WA. At midnight, the pubs shut down, the music didn't. Tommy, Wilber Wilde on the sax (Ol 55, Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons) and James Morrison (Trumpet and anything that needed wind) were all staying at they same hotel. they started jamming in the beer garden with a few other Perth based jazz band and rock bands that didn't want to go to sleep. It was the best private jam session I have ever attended. I've been playing guitar and bass for the last 45 years, and have never got to experience a moment like that again.
last words… the point of the what you Rick doing it… that's the …yeah…those that feel!
5:35
As much praise Prince received for being a musician, he never developed his acoustic guitar playing to the level of this gentleman, and I believe he could have if he'd been inspired by this kind of playing. Obviously he wasn't. Such a shame. He placed too much emphasis on arousing women through lewd, inappropriate antics on stage and not enough on developing a warm, open sound on acoustic guitar.
Met him at a Meet & Greet. Total gentleman! Made us feel he had all the time in the world. Love the C.G.P. on his 12th fret. Now that's a custom guitar!
There really isn't a better guitar player.
Tommy's playing doesn't need vocals, they would get in the way of how he makes his guitar speak and portray emotions. He is just incredible.
Beautiful.
24:50 what's the song called?
This guy Tommy… the energy he puts into EVERY note of EVERY song… and then into EVERY interaction he has with people… makes him a truly amazing human being. Chet loved him, and most of the guitar playing community acknowledge him as a great guy who plays the guitar in a tier above the rest. This is true talent. And he is completely humble about it and more than eager to share his knowledge with anyone around him. He always says something like "I haven't played this for awhile" or "let me slow this down for you" and then totally blows the roof off!! Struggling with Train to Dusseldorf?? Yeah right!! This guy is the whole package deal!! Talent and humor and just a great personality!! And then he yanks out a hearing aid? Because he has trouble hearing and knows it affects his playing? What!? Two working ears and I can't figure out 1/100 of what he knows!!
Whats that song he’s playin at 1:40?
esto es hermoso. asi, en español!
