The tariffs were a distraction tacktic used by Trump to draw attention from what really is going on … Trump has a south African immigrant put in charge of our hard earned money (taxes) deciding the outcome of our economy. Elon musk and some very smart computer geeks have robbed the information about our country's financial standing. The ones who will benefit from all this are the super rich 1% which helped installed Trump 2.0 into the white house.

It wouldn’t be terrible if this causes a bit of pain to encourage supply chain diversification and bring some of that back into the USA. Exporting production has been done not just to reduce manufacturing costs but also to differentiate “Made In USA” as a mystique soaked ultra premium branding with corresponding higher prices and thus profits. Even if costs were to slightly increase, it wouldn’t hurt players. The lower retail costs is just meant encourage irrational guitar hoarding, I mean “collecting” and not actual playing. Check out the savage 60 cycle hum “tear down” of a Rickenbacker clone to see how much people value these inexpensive instruments. Playable instruments or not, they don’t because they’re so low cost.
Are we talking tariffs or tactics? If the threat of tariffs are what it takes to bring people to the table to negotiate a more fair deals for the USA I’ll happily stick with what I already own.
We used to make everything here. It was all the best stuff made. We make nothing anymore. Except for some musical instruments and maybe a few other things. They said we were in Vietnam back in the 60s to stop the spread of communism. Then they turned over all our manufacturing to a communist country. There is a heavy price for changing from innovative world leader to a country that manufacturers squat. Guess we’ve had some very bad leaders that ran our country in the dirt for the last hundred years or so. Just an observation

I have gotten my values. They were already here and on the market. I cant control industry, but i think is good for our goverment to support America. The prices will eventually go down, when American companies compete with each other. I dont buy into all the hype about slave kids in factories. Maybe some are just young people with jobs. People have different customs about kids working. If they dont work, in some places, they dont eat. Our kids are neglected. They dont know how to work. It's not worth it for an employer to hire a kid, with all the red tape, and the incredibly dismal work ethic. If i can find a deal, cool. At the end of the day, i can say that none of my imports are as good as my Martin's. Gibson and Fender are overated. Ive had a Dove, an SG, and a studio LP. They were all full of issues. I feel jipped that i even had to learn to work on guitars at all. Im not trying to be a luthier. I wish Martin made electric guitars. No one should have to do their own work on an expensive brand new guitar. Play it, and buy it in a store.
I haven't heard any talk about Indonesia being hit by tariffs…yet.

Or you could do like Neil Young, buy one black Les Paul and play it into the ground for 50 years? ???? I played mainly acoustic guitar for 45 years. I always had a D-28 and a Gibson J-60, a "cannon." That's all I really needed. It's nice to collect, I guess if you have the $$, but a couple guitars worked for me. Don't they say a Telecaster does everything? Kenny Vaugh says, we don't use pedal boards. Don Felder, " Not much to show for pedals"…???? Is it all in the hands?
Fully support Trump's Tariffs. it's true cheap guitars will cost more then they are worth. All the nicer imports will cost more until the day they are produced in the USA. At that point me win the trade war and things go back to like they were in the 80's.
Can't grow mahogany in the USA. Can't grow rosewood in the USA. Thats just some wood. Lots of maple comes from Canada. Now think earth minerals that can't be mined in the USA and go into electronic parts.

We are basically in an asymmetrical war with China. It’s why we are scrambling to get control of the Panama Canal and the western hemisphere. We need to start manufacturing in the US again. No choice. We got too used to cheap goods from China which is basically one big slave plantation. As far as equipment goes lots of great used stuff for sale at great prices. Let the original buyer take the depreciation hit.
