I have the P90 version – I did some reading online and to get a more pronounced treble / clarity people mentioned rolling the volume knob down(kinda counter intuitive to how I operate my Strat) but it ended up providing the diverse range I was looking for.
The only thing I am still getting used to is the overall body shape – it sits a little more back ended in your lap and almost has a little bit of negative neck dive (neck rise perhaps ?) is that a new term.
It reminds me a of a jr in a lot of ways due to its overall size profile – definitely blown away at the quality for the price – this is will be a very hard guitar to beat of spec / feel / finish and material wise.
After a bad experience, I no longer buy new guitars from Sweetwater. I do my own setups; I don't need their "inspection". I prefer to get my new guitars in the factory sealed box so I know it is exactly how it left the factory.
As far as any other music gear, if I can find it elsewhere at the same or a better price, I go elsewhere.
Yamaha Revstar is the Corolla, Civic, etc. of electric guitars. Good, dependable but not interesting or exciting.
IMO.
You are right about the Revstar being one of the most requested reviews. I did two reviews of it and they are amongst the best performing videos on my channel. I did, however, find some sloppy factory work.
Although I did show the issue in the review, I decided not to show all the details on the public review videos but made two private videos that Sweetwater shared with Yamaha. Sweetwater took it seriously and according to them, Yamaha also took it seriously and I was told Yamaha was working on fixing the problem. However, I have not seen any additional Revstar guitars since I addressed that flaw, so I have not had the opportunity to see if or how they fixed the recurring problem.
The problem was with the nut. Like I said, I did show the problem in a review video, but I toned it down as I didn't want to be negative. The private videos that I shared with Sweetwater (through the customer) showed a bit more.
In any case, I enjoyed your review.
The reason the Revstar doesn't have a neck dive, like an SG, is due to the position of the strap button, at the tip of the extended upper horn.
BTW, that Yamaha logo is not new. They've had this logo for a long time.
I actually think the shape of the Revstar is more of a Les Paul/Eclipse than a SG.
I got my first Revstar RSS20 last week . My quick review:
I have had many guitars in my life, over 100, and I think I tried most big/common brands and many more. My main guitar is an Anderson Pro Am.
I can't recommend Revstar Standard enough! Quality and playability is amazing! I couldn't believe the hype was real.
Really wanted to get one of these so I clicked on your video. Unfortunately I have small hands and only bond with thin necks so when I hear larger than C I'm out
One of your best videos, Anre. Thanks a lot!
I've been itching to get an RSP (the Japanese variant) since they came out. I have an SG 1802 that is my Number One. It's a really remarkable model. I hunted that down for over a year before finding a perfectly pristine specimen. I suspect I will end up doing the same for a first-gen RSP20CR …
Higher ratio is easier to turn.
I don't know who has actually hyped this guitar, or if that is even a thing, but I have one of these and I think it's fantastic. My hand are small to medium and the neck feels great to me. One of my favorite guitars. Great review just the same. (My frets were smooth.) Mine is the P90 version.
I’ve been eyeing up Revstars for a while now, glad you did a review. Tones sound amazing. Thank you!
1:50 thats the yamaha logo since forever, even the motorbikes have that logo.
Define “Everyone”.
I've tried a couple in the shop and found the neck is too chunky for me. It seems to work for Matteo.
I want the green one
No. Not worthy of the hype, and no reason many folks should be talking about it. Why? Simple: It's an unattractive design.
noone is talking about this ????
Yamaha logo is Yamaha logo….the 3 forks
The experiment: Bass
I prefer higher ratio
Lower, not higher
yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I own one and it is awesome, It like a Gibson SG but it stays in tune
Absolutely killer guitar. I have played a few and love them. Yamaha provides a tremendous value for what you pay. They truly make exceptional guitars.
I got one in neon yellow and I love it
Yamaha makes exceptional products of all kinds. I've only played one revstar and it was no exception.
Yeah, even stainless frets need polishing, polishing, polishing.
A bit late eh? Everyone WAS talking about these over a year ago now.
I actually want one of these
the higher ratio is easier to turn, and should resist going out of tune better.
