Nashville bassist weighs in on his long-held position on the Belmont faculty, plus playing bass on some very cool projects

Roy Vogt is a prolific bassist, educator, and author who has lived in Nashville, TN, since 1980. After receiving the first master’s degree ever awarded in Electric Bass Performance in the U.S. from the University of Miami School of Music, Roy’s move to Nashville led to his appointment on the faculty of Belmont University, where he has held the Bass Professor chair since 1983. Throughout his four-decade-long career, Roy has worked with music industry stars including Larry Coryell, Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Dave Weckl, Glenn Campbell, Chet Atkins, Englebert Humperdinck, Dickey Betts, Charlie Daniels, and Jerry Reed. Besides performing and university teaching duties, Roy is the author of the acclaimed Teach Me Bass Guitar instructional series and is involved with the Nashville Bass Institute.
