  • Great video, newbie bass player here, also retired professional drummer of 30+ years from Los Angeles. After 22 surgeries, mostly on both feet, lower back (also one on each thumb) I gave the sticks up and bought a bass. I have always been attracted to the bass guitar, been playing with them for 44 years, I have TONS of rhythm, great ears, I can hear every bass line and sing it, but I don't know the notes. So THAT is my battle, translating the bass line in my head, or sung out loud, to the notes on the fret board.

  • I appreciate how humble you are in your teaching. When learning, we can be hard on ourselves when we aren't getting it fast. You normalizing the time it takes is super encouraging and I appreciate it. I've been playing for years and still constantly learning every day. Listening is everything.

  • Daric, I've noticed that you have a great ear for those minor details. This is still very dope to me….revisiting this 2 years later!! Teddy

  • so i have watched several chord videos and am able to play them but transferring that knowledge to a song is kind of confusing because i cant really play the way i have it in my mind.

  • This was just too easy for my brother…

He could listen to any song and 5 minutes later he would be playing the song chords and all…

  • I have been doing the same thing since shortly after I started the bass. As a bassist I'd always try to hear the bass in a song, almost isolating it in my head. It helps when learning new songs and I also feel that they help you study the ones you already know. After repeating those lines in my head I feel much more comfortable with my timing. It is a great tool even though it might sound very simple (and sometimes funny for other people in the room). The lines come much more naturally rather than relying on muscle memory.
