ThePedalGuy VLOG How Should You Use Preamp Pedals featuring the Mooer 005 Brown Sound Preamp Pedal

In this video, we circle back to the Mooer 005 Preamp pedal to demo the difference between plugging the pedal into the front of your amp, and plugging it into the FX Return in the back of your amp.

There’s a distinct difference in both examples. Plugging into the front essentially double stacks two preamps and the results can be less than ideal. Plugging a preamp pedal into the back of the amp via the FX Return bypasses the on board preamp/EQ and leaves the driving to your preamp pedal instead. The audible difference is noticeable for sure. Have a look and listen.

  • I'm waiting on an eBay delivery. I bought a $140 electric guitar, it comes with a few things. One being a really small amp. It could be mistaken as a watch, I'm talking small. A baby's finger is bigger. This is NOT a big amp. What im wondering is can I hook the pre amp pedal to that little amp? Any help would be appreciated thanks!

  • So if you’re using delay effects through your effects loop, which goes first the preamp, and then the effects and into the effects loop or vice a versa?

  • How would the chain work if I have other pedals? Would the guitar connect to the preamp and not the tuner at the front of the chain? Would everything go into the FX loop? Please help

  • Is it 'dangerous' to plug a pre-amp pedal into the input jack on the front of an amp? Can it damage the amp? Great video thanks for sharing ????

  • Can I run a preamp pedal in the effects loop. Like send and return. Thinking vox mystic edge in the loop for clean chime but I still want to run normal pedals through the front of my lonestar.

  • Great video, I just got one today and I'm wondering if there's any way I could combine it with my hotone ampero 2, this one being my main distortion tone and using the Ampero as an IR loader and for modulations. If so, could you please tell me what the signal chain would look like? Thanks in advance.

  • I'm using a mini pedal board. Usual pedals into pre amp,to amp Sim Radar. To Recorder. Use headphone out from Radar, for silent practice. No need to go to amplifier

  • Picked 2 different models of this line up at gc yesterday. I’m not really that knowledgable on how pedals and amps really work but running it off my pedalboard through the power amp in on my boss katana mk2 50 is what you’d advise doing if I just wanna use it for practice at home?

  • Here's a dumb question: Would a tuner work proper if put before the preamp going into the FX Loop?

  • Bro, is it working if ever the preamp directly to any cabinet speaker? The preamp itself can give a 100watts? For example the preamp 012. Thanks bro, hope you can answer my question.

  • Would this be good sound?
Overdrive > amp input > preamp (send) > reverb > delay > return
Or should I direct them all to return

  • Hello pedal guy, can I ask you a question? I have a high end tube mic preamp and I would like to use it to improve the sound of a Dan Electro Honeytone mini practice amp. I have my reasons for doing this and it's an interesting project. I've replaced the crappy 3" 2 watt speakers with a NOS 3/12" 5 watt drive in movie theater speaker cone. Will the 26 decibels of the tube mic preamp damage the tiny 5 watt 8ohm speaker? Can I use a tube mic preamp to push a tiny micro mini guitar amp, if I replaced the speaker with a 3/12" 5 watt speaker? Will I blow the speaker? Or is it a simple matter of not turning the preamp up too much, THANKS
