  • i think rex brown use walking bass, because the first music genre he was introduced when he was a child it was jazz.
i think he played jazz guitar when he had 12 years old

  • my favorite bassist! Such an insightful and knowledgeable dig into their discography. Excellent examples provided also

  • He only seems underrated because he was in a band with the Abbott brothers & Phil Anselmo, that’s the definition of a band of heavy hitters right there! Rex seems slightly in the shadows just in that line-up but easily holds his own. Pantera is just a powerhouse band, you just don’t get many bands of this ilk.

  • Rex is underrated and I have no idea why. Being able to play perfectly along Dimebag is something only a handful of people can do

  • Even metal bass players do not follow the guitars 100% of the time. Tom Araya is a great examp!e of a guy who knows exactly when NOT to mirror the guitars.
I do not believe scooped mids are a part of Rex's sound. Anyone that understands frequencies and how to get a good live sound out of a band knows that if your guitar player scoops the mids on his rig the bass player should boost his mids in order to fill that sonic space which allows the bass to be heard without muddying up the guitars or sounding like the kick drum. I assume that you are a guitar player because a lot of what you said in this video are common misconceptions about bass that guitar players tend to make. People that play six string guitar think that they can play bass as well. They think bass is easier because there are less strings, you only have to play one string at a time, and you just follow the guitar and thump on the root notes. You might pull this off enough to convince yourself you are pretty good but eventually you are going to be playing a gig and you will sound so bad that you will be back to playing in your garage.

  • Man, Rex is so underrated. Such a beast. Dime was such a charismatic and explosive guitar player that he stole so much attention but Rex was so vital to their sound and groove. IMO, Rex's tone is the pinnacle of metal bass tone. Spector and Ampeg > All. These new age Dingwall/Darkglass guys need to put some respect on his name.

  • Rex is awesome, great video dude! Would love to see Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse, Steve DiGiorgio from Death, Testament, Sadus etc and Cronos from Venom! ????
