ADA MP1 settings for Wagner/Skid Row/White Lion etc:
Overdrive 1 : 4.0 dist
Overdrive 2 : 5.5 dist
Master Gain : 7.5 dist
Bass : 12
Mid : 6
Treb : 6
Pres : 12
Voicing : .tube
FX loop : off

From the ADA it went into the McIntosh 2100 (transistor) poweramp and from there into a vintage Marshall 4×12 cab with the original G12H inside. At that time I normally used Fostex M11RP ribbon mics and Countryman Lavalier mics through a John Hardy M1 to record guitar.

BTW, I still have version 1.0 software in the ADA. I changed it to version 2.x and it was quieter but wasn’t quite as dynamic, so I changed it back to 1.0.
More info:
The setup for the guitar sound for the EXTREME sessions as well as the first SkidRow album and White Lion’s “Pride” album (in most cases, not on all tracks) was a Furman PEQ-3 into an unmodified ADA MP-1 (version 1.0, still got it) going into a McIntosh transistor poweramps (2100) into an original Marshall cab with 4x G12H (30W). The mics were, if I remember it right: Fostex M11RP Ribbon, Countryman lavalier and possibly a SM57/58 going into John Hardy M-1s and from there via a mono buss into aUREI 530 EQ and a BBE 802 then to digital tape (Mitsubishi 32 tack)

I love the Circle of tone pedal! What's the story on that? I want one…

  • You put out some great points with regards to musicians and bands today. Your idea about the remaining members touring as October Rust is awesome! I really think the fans would embrace it overall. Thanks for providing the Nembrini discount – this is solid!

  • I saw an interview with the bassist from crumbsuckers who said he asked Billy Gould what he used for his bass. The most important part was that he cut his speaker cone slightly to get a distorted tone. I think the interviewer was drew stone from NYHC chronicles

  • The reason why theres no amazing gothic/industrial music coming out anymore is because i havent released my new albums yet. 😛

    >left unfulfilled and broke
    >realizes that i need my own tone.
    >broke so can't afford the gear I'm chasing now.

    Yeah, that's a thing.

  • If you are not getting the distortion you need for that sustainiac type sound. Then add more distortion pedals. I used to run a Boss metal zone and ibanez classic distortion. Now I use tons of shit.

  • I beg for protection. Nice Samhain shirt. We seem to like the same music. Type O, Danzig, Slayer, Motorhead… etc… You are going to make me brake out my C–1 Lefty Kenny Hickey and jam out.

  • This is kind of a stupid idea, but it's worth a shot:

On the record vocals, it sounds like they're going through Peter's bass rig connected to a mic… while wiggling the microphone to get that sound. I mean, shaking the microphone to get that effect.

It sounds silly, but I have hears people jokingly doing that mic-shaking maneuver, and the resemblance is uncanny…

  • I've commented not long ago about me being 19, living close to Chicago in the late 80's and seeing Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer on tour in 1988. I have to add (I'm in no means rubbing it in, seriously.) I seen Type O on the October Rust tour. It was just as absolutely fucking magnificent as you could possibly imagine it was. At one point in concert, (the end possibly?) they had fake autumn leaves blowing out everywhere. Yeah man it was really something. But right on. Ive been a fan of the channel since the beginning. Stay warm bro lol! CoT on!

  • You're doing the Lord's work.. LOL. Keep it up.
Being from Brooklyn, I had the pleasure of seeing Type O countless times. They were always playing in L'amours. Them, Life of Agony, and Biohazard in the 90s were the top 3 it seemed. The first few albums, Kenny's tone was shit, too much high end and chorus, but it fit in nicely with the rest of the band. Around October Rust it started to thicken a little and improve. I think there's two things that you're missing to really nail the Type O sound. 1st would be sustainiac pickups like you mentioned. 2nd would be the keyboards. There's so much of his keyboard tone that actually emulates and adds into the bass and guitar tones. I remember seeing them live, and Josh's keyboard rig shit the bed. It was like there was a huge hole in their sound. I'd love to see an in depth on Josh's keyboard lines and tones.

  • Pretty spot on video, thanks from another T.O.N. Fan. I first encountered them opening up for Motley at a local venue called the Mirage in the 90’s (unfortunately it’s since been converted to a bakery) I was not aware of Type O Negative at the time. Peter walked out to the mic, and I couldn’t figure out why a roadie was gearing up to play… then the show started, and I found out real quick what was up. Simply amazing show, big fan ever since.
I made it to the end and of your video and heard Mn as the new spot, welcome. The weather should warm up by the weekend.

  • I have the same peavey. It does everything from reggae to the smiths, maiden, candlemass, thin lizzy early metallica and half of 80s American hard core

  • You say we should be drowning in hard rock and metal hits but we’re not because of the production… It’s not the production it’s the songs! And it’s a real mystery too! What happened? Why can’t people write songs anymore… Is it simply the flood of content and the overwhelming access and availability of everything? Are we just numb… Pre-Internet we prized individuals… Type O Negative being a prime example… Younger people though seem to have a completely different ethos where they just can’t wait to jump off a cliff and become like everybody else… People basically become one of six characters today, right down to the tattoos covering the top of their hands…

  • I always thought that was a Leslie cabinet on his vocals.. My band got to use one in a studio for the vocal. Still one of the greatest sounds I've ever experienced in person.
Frozen is godlike btw. Shows the true genius of Pete and the band. Cheers for the vid
