  • I have a player Strat and love it but the whammy bar is kind of loose the Sire fitting looked far superior as does everything you mentioned. I thought the Sire sounded a little warmer but still had the jangle so for me The Sire, wish I'd bought one! That $250 difference is huge also I'm not a brand snob either.

  • I just watched ya video on the S5! Fender dropped the new standard to compete with the S5 which is cheaper. These Sire guitars are insanely good! The price point isnā€™t bad either and on the used market u catch a good deal! Definitely buying an S7

  • The tone depends on the pick ups and the electronic. Change this specs on the Sire and you have the best Fender half the price

  • Buy a Sire, change de pick ups for a CS 69 or a Fat 50s and…… Magic……yo have a Fender CS for half o less the price

  • Great video, I'm heading to Sire S7. More features. Eventually Sire may start cutting back as popularity goes. Bought a Fender Squire, turned off by the lower quality. Playing for a hole month šŸ™‚

  • being a 40 year Strat nut I prefer the Strat …just, although the p1 tests were virtually identical. however the price difference would pay for a pretty damn good set of pups if you were that way inclined, making a serious players guitar. so mmm….

  • Player is shite. Just sold mine after trying to force myself to love it for almost 4 years. Bought an s7 vintage and it was cracking but had to send it back due to truss rod being stripped. Have an s7 standard now and its almost made angry at how fender can pump out such a sub par product and rely on the name on the headstock to sell it. Dunno if ill ever buy another fender.

  • Not sure my ears are expert enough and I thought both guitars sounded great but if I had to pick I would say the Sire edged it for me especially considering the price difference, which canā€™t be ignored for most of us anyway. Nice comparisonā€¦ thanks!

  • @DarrellBraunGuitar if you have to choose between a Fender American Pro2 and a Sire S7, what would you pick?

  • What makes a Fender a Fender are the pickups/electronics. Put them on the Sire and youā€™ll have the Ultimate Strat!????

  • ???? the Sire s7 Vintage kicks ass ā¤ just ordered one now ???? thanks for the review and comparisson! Great work! ????

  • If it looks like a duck but doesnā€™t quack like a duck . . . Great back to back, Darrell. The consensus seems to be that the Sire has nicer overall features and a fuller sound but the Strat sounds more like, well, a Strat. Position 4 was telling. And, yes, one could put Fender electronics in the Sire but now youā€™re in a whole different price range. For out of the box people like me, I would go with the Strat because I love the unmistakable Strat sound. But that Sire is a great guitar. Thanks for another great review!

  • Man, Iā€™m a fender guy but the Sire shocked me! I gotta give the win to Sire but Iā€™m still with my fender American deluxe

  • Both sound great! They both sound like Strats. They sound pretty similar, we wouldn't be able to tell them apart in a blind test. Knowing that the Sire has just slightly hotter pickups would be a giveaway, but guess what guitar a song is recorded with? It's not relevant. You will be able to gig and record with any of them, with most of the guitars out there, as long as they're set up well. Fender has the name, and if you want to try it, you can buy one used and then sell it without a loss.

  • The Fender has the magic of a more fluid tonal quality and of course that's why players and builder want and imitate. Love the sire but saving pennies a little longer for that Fender.

  • Clearly the Player has better pick ups. If you forget the price difference and purely judge the tone, than the Player sounds more like a Strat. But I have to admit that the S7 looks ok and sounds great. Like the neck a lot. In both cases you buy a great guitar for not that much money. I played both and went for the Player Plus, also because I think they will keep their value a bit better than the Sire.

  • I purchased a Sire S7 with the HSS pickup configuration. The sound feel and playability are great. And everything you stated is spot on. The only drawback with the Sire is playing it in low light, the abalone color fret markers are very hard to see, therefore, I will sometimes mess up my finger positioning as I go up and down the neck.

Also, the pickups might be slightly microphonic, while on a phone call I placed the phone over the pickups and the conversation could be heard through the amp speaker.

It is not a fair comparison, but my Fender Strat Ultra has the original lace sensor pickups and the Sire sounds at least as good as it does.

  • Both were good — full maple neck guitars do tend to be brighter, so it would be interesting hearing a rosewood fender.
I rarely find that having the same eq settings works in getting the optimal tone for each guitar but a great comparison.
