  • I’ve started experimenting with hand placement on the bass to try and get different tones depending on what I'm playing. This is a great lesson to focus in on tone. Im trying to get a Phil Lynott tone and I’m not getting it, I’ll have to keep trying. Thanks for the lesson.

  • Ace lesson, laid back, top notch advice. On my P bass, a la mode Mr Jamerson, a piece of foam under the strings at the bridge, gives that rich, deep muted bass sound. Personally I love the sound, but nothing to lose guys give it a try while playing through Dan’s lesson, if it doesn’t sound right take the foam out, cheap, easy to do, and may solve the problem of anyone finding palm muting a tadge difficult. Thanks again Dan.

  • Yeah but it has a lot to do with that wonderful Ibanez bass, your technique (yours is right on the money) and you obviously have decent gear and understand gain staging. Great video. You have a new subscriber.

  • I would love to see the video on the fills based on scales! That would be very helpful. Have a great day.

  • Hi Dan, what is the model name/number for that beautiful Ibanez bass your playing?

  • Really really dirty that Scott's Bass Lessons ads pop up on your channel. Naughty. Apart from that, thank you again for elucidating the technique within the technique. Despite your experience you somehow see from a beginner's perspective- what we struggle with. Hats off.

  • Hello Dan, maybe I said it before but I use my index finger for the E A and D string and the middle finger for G string. It has given me more feel for the rhythm instead of using the two finger method.
Side note. Just ordered your book. Anything for a great basic technique. Thank you buddy. Greetings

  • I use the floating thumb technique – it really frees-up the plucking hand to move around within phrases. I like to creep towards the bridge to add tension or jump there for fills.
