  • i cannot for the life of me get comfortable with my thumb strumming. i have tried multiple hand positions and cannot get it, ESPECIALLY when stumming the a string with my thumb, my hand has to curl up. I feel like giving up lmao.

  • Great tips. I'm not a complete beginner and haven't tried playing this stuff yet but I know before even trying that it will help me make a real breakthrough in my playing ( after the obligatory hours of frustration of course,????). This is the first video I've seen from you but I'll definitely be checking out others. Thanks.

  • I'm beginner it's difficult to using the frets. My fingers touch other string, so it doesn't sounds.

  • Good lord, a fifteen minute video just gave me a year's worth of "must-learn" practice tchniques. Really enjoy your presentation style, personality, and content Rhett – thank you!

  • Well, you DID say from Beginner through Advanced… After playing with a pick for decades, this sets me WAY back on the old Learning Curve. It's time to reawaken that encouraging voice I kept in my head back when Willingness was all the progress I had to show. We all start out like cavemen on Guitar with neither hand knowing where to go or what to do there. At least now, the Left knows its way around.

My initial goal is to learn to play "I'm So Glad" the way I WANT to play it. Clapton altered Skip James' version. I'm OK with altering Cream's. When the arrangement is mostly set, training to play the right notes with the right fingers is the next hurdle. Another is training to smoothly palm and retrieve the pick. After that is probably getting it up to Full Speed. Only when I'm done with the learning and practicing, will it be time to rehearse for Performance. (As the Pros know, Practicing and Rehearsing are… two… different… things.)

You're right on about Fingerstyle opening up whole new worlds. Songs like "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" and "Going To California" always sounded do-able but Where To Start always seemed a mystery. Some of us may do better with a structured plan to follow like you laid out here… Many, many thanks for taking away all my Fingerstyle excuses, Rhett.

  • This was so good. 15 years playing guitar and plateaued for 14 years! Learning a bunch of finger style patterns has allowed me to level up for the first time ????
