Hey Everyone! Today we’re taking a closer look at the brand new Squier Jazz Bass VI from their Affinity Series. Neither Fender nor Squier have offered a ‘traditional’ (strung B-C) 6 string bass in over two decades, but now we have quite a compelling budget offering from Squier! Costing less than many sets of pickups, this $329 Squier Sixer seems like a pretty good deal. Let’s check it out!

This bass and all my other basses with rounds are strung with SIT Foundation Nickel Plated Stainless Steel 45-105(125) unless otherwise noted. Check them out at https://sitstrings.com/

  • Sister, this was a rad review that was super helpful. Also, not to offend by any means, but if you're a trans woman, the only clue I had was your voice. You look great. Killin' it sug. Again, this review was amazing and helpful. Thanks for posting. Following.

  • Anyone know of any good pickups to mod this bass? According to Bartolini the spacing of these pickups is different than the Steve Bailey signature and they’re working on getting the spacing for the affinity vi. I know Nordstrand can do 6 string jazz bass pickups with a 17mm spacing but I’d prefer to not have to do any routing to modify the body to accept different pickups.

  • If this had the same string spacing as the 4 string Jazz Bass I would hop on it quick. Nobody makes an affordable 6 string with a 18-19 mm spacing.

  • I've been drooling over this bass for a while now. I love my Jazz Bass, and I think a 6 is next in line. Gotta expand the collection, y'know. ????
Edit to add: I had a 6-string Soundgear about 25 years ago. No neck dive whatsoever. Great all-around sound, but exceptional for heavier music — I was in a doom/death metal band at the time, and it was perfect.

  • I’m happy this bass exists, it’s a fantastic gigging option for 6 string players who don’t want to bring something terribly expensive to a gig. I love unconventional instruments that look more “standard”

    Here’s where I’m strange:
I’d prefer 35”+ on a low B, I know 34 can be fine, but I often use a .145 string to make up the difference.

I also am not a fan of string spacing tighter than 18mm but if I could find a cheap wider 6 string bridge, it’d be a fun bass to throw around!

  • Outstanding and inspiring playing! I just bought one a couple of weeks ago (my first six string) and I’m very surprised and pleased at the build quality. And yes, it is that fun to play!

  • I have been playing an Affinity Jazz 5 for a number of years now since I found one at a guitar center – love at first sight…
As soon as this 6 string was announced I immediately ordered one… and I love the thing!
WHY HAVE YOUR REVIEWS NOT SHOWN UP IN MY FEED YET?!? Excellent review, right to the point and well presented! I look forward to checking out more of your stuff!

  • Update: Got this bass for Christmas and I love it!! Construction is very solid! I played it once with the original passive electronics in it before replacing it with an Audere 3 band drop in preamp and man oh man!!! This thing bites hard! Even with the stock pickups it growls! I love it! That’s again for the solid review! ????????

  • I don’t think this is the bass for me, but this is my first time coming back to your channel since your transition and want to say congratulations!!! ???? Looking fabulous ????
P.s. I think I’m going for the Ibanez src6, the one with the multi scale neck and fanned frets

  • Great review Lobster! Is there any chance of you reviewing the Harley Benton GuitarBass and the Squier/Fender BassVI ?

  • This chordal work has me wondering if you play guitar too. It's a nice departure from traditional bass demo material.

  • Because of Bully, I bought the SX 6 string (before they changed to the flamingo headstock) and upgraded the electronics to an Audere preamp and Wilkinson tuners. LOVE THAT BASS! This one would be the perfect project bass as well!

  • Its about time! It took Fender WAY too long to produce a 6 string model outside of the Steve Bailey model.

  • Awesome review !!!!
I can't believe how cheap it is !!!
Sounded real good too, although, the static noise if yer not playing sounded pretty loud, but yeah, maybe a little bit of shielding would help.
Not sure why Fender wouldn't have already done that and added the extra few dollars on to it though…
Cheap, light and sounds good… Can't beat that, even with the bit of neck dive !!!!
    Have a great day !!!!!
    🙂
