Electro-Harmonix LIZARD KING Bass Octave Fuzz Pedal (EHX Demo by NATE NAVARRO)

Make way for the new heir to the octave fuzz throne, the Lizard King from Electro-Harmonix. Directly inspired by the EHX x JHS collaboration released in 2023, the Lizard King takes the gnarly and responsive octave fuzz circuit from the Lizard Queen and optimizes it for bass and beyond. With updated tone controls and a new Blend knob, the bass’s fundamental tone and low-end is preserved while the top-end of the fuzz tone is shaped to fit or dominate any mix!

The EHX Lizard King is a fixed-gain fuzz that is dynamically responsive. Adjustments to your instruments volume affects the amount of fuzz. Lower instrument volumes create a clear, fuzzy overdrive, while full instrument volume sends the gain over the top for ripping riff and searing solo tones. The familiar VOLUME and OCTAVE knobs control overall output and octave blend volume respectively. New to the Lizard King, the BLEND knob sets the mix between your clean and fuzz tones to create the perfect balance of fuzz while retaining your bass’s attack and low-end. The TONE knob is a low pass filter that rolls off the highs, while the SUN/SHADOW switch further enhances the tone of the octave fuzz and clean tones. SUN boosts the octave fuzz with a more driving midrange, and the clean tone accessed by the BLEND knob has more treble and bass frequencies. When the switch is set to SHADOW, the clean tone is unchanged, and fuzz tone is tighter.

  • Got this pedal today as my first actual effects pedal for bass. Really enjoying it so far, some really cool sounds for a reasonable price, the blend feature is a game changer. Very cool aesthetic as well.

  • If i understand correctly the pedal reacts to dynamics of the strings and putting a compressor in front of it would be counterproductive.

Why i ask is because an octave pedal works smoother with a compressor in front of.

But this pedal seems to be one of a kind.

What would be your personal preference with this pedal ? Comp or no comp?

  • Nate’s playing made me buy this pedal. I love this pedal so much, I’ve tried the lizard queen and I love the changes EHX made to the circuit. This fuzz is my go to in the studio due to its versatility. I cannot underestimate how this is the best fuzz I have ever used. It plays well with almost all of my pedals and when combined with the polyphonic shimmer on the oceans 11 pedal it’s creates a beautiful harmonic tone range. I hope this pedal gets more love because it’s just a joy to play with it. This is hands down the best EHX pedal.

  • Excellent! Wondering why I just bought a nano muff AND an MXR octave? I guess so I can switch back and forth between the two fx in real time

  • Absolutely loved the video and ordered that pedal. I’m new playing the Bass. Was curious what you call the lifted section between his pickups where he is plucking? Is that something he added or something that comes standard on his Bass? Thanks!

  • Angry Robot sounds like this. Lemmy from Motorhead sounded like this with a fat pic and a 4001 bass through a herd of Marshall stacks and 1 long Guitar cable. You canny buy attitude. Like your pedals EHX , does this come with the sponge?
