Evil, aggressive – or just plain scary? Distortion has long been the effect that gives rock and metal its edge. But is it time to start thinking of distortion in a more modern sense? With the likes of Darkglass Electronics taking digital technology to new dimensions, we’ve never had it so good!

In today’s new video, Ian Allison examines the latest pedal from Darkglass – the Microtubes Infinity – in all its menacing, tone-shaping glory.

  • Great video. ????❤️ I"d love you to do one on the Darkglass Kaamos when you can get your hands on one. I know you love your fuzz/octave sounds, and I think I'd be great to hear what you think of Darkglass's newest pedal. ????❤️????

  • Please do more gear reviews, where I am there are no bass stores so I can only really order online… nothing worse than ordering gear and have it turn up asnd hating it and losing hundreds, if not thousands.

  • Despite I appreciate this review, you can't just turn off the pedal and say it's so sad while the off mode is way lower volume. This is somewhat loudness war, where small volume just sounds worse. You need to at least make them both same volume and compare. Otherwise, you are kinda speaking scam, fooling ppl by psychological effect.

  • Hey @DevineBass I got a question maybe is a dumb one but I never had an Active bass before. If I buy an Spector bass should I still need a preamp pedal like this one to power up the tone?

  • Thanks Ian! It's strange. We bought a 230 dollar Crate head, carvin 410 and a Memphis bass and it sounded so good. I've been trying to find that kind of sound ever since. I've got these 110s tuned down to C, but the strings feel too harsh. It did help with dead notes. I just want a bass with sustain and a good tone. This sounded great. I just can't afford to spend any more money guessing. Which gauge string, how to get low action, how to get output and sustain that isn't fuzzy but is also full. Thank you for the demo. Can't help wondering if almost anything you play sounds great haha!

  • I have a HX Stomp. Does this provide any additional benefit other than replacing the compressor and distortion? Maybe amp/cab modelling? If I run a DG Microtubes 900, would I need this? I would think that I could get the same sound with a Cali76 into my HX Stomp into my DG Microtubes 900. House could tap into the DI of the amp.

  • Hi Ian, Great video, I was wondering if it would be make sense to use the Hyper luminal in first and bypass the multiband

  • 1. Your Di bass sounds bad because you literally have it at half the volume of the pedal… Cmon Ian I know you've got a pedal to shill…but FFS….
    2. I'm beginning to think that Darkglass had it's infinity range from day one and thought… Hmmm if we release this where do we go….so they reversed engineered it over the years to drip feed tones to us in individual pedals…. Coining it in…
    3. I have the X7 and it IS brilliant… But when I got it i wish I could have switched off the distortion and just use the EQ circuit..and save some of the insane amount of toned available…but no…..then boom..X7 ultra comes out… But that doesn't have presets and there are so many useful tones….and so now ..infinity….And that right there is where me and Darkglass part ways…. If you're going to charge the mad amount for your pedals give us all the goods up front please … I'm a gigging bass player and need versatility… .. hx stomp or helix does all this and much..much…much….more… And for about the same money. I'll keep the X7 as a back up but no more of my hard earned money is going to DG…sorry……

  • So… I can use a Darkglass pedal as a DI/preamp. One pedal for a few things (preamp, DI, dirt/fuzz)… the problem is: Which one to choose? Don’t play much, if any, metal (the sound is stellar, though!). Just want some occasional, situational OD/distortion. And I don’t want to spend a boatload of money (always searching the used market).

  • Ian, I got about 10,000 extra widgets laying around that I couldn't sell – can you help a brother out? Cheers!

  • You've sold me, this pedal does everything I'm aiming for on my new setup. I'm getting this. Thank you!

  • Absolutely. In fact, I think I will now pick one of these up and get rid of my earlier Alpha Omega Darkglass and a Darkglass compressor. Great review Ian and you and Scott are fantastic together. You both show so much fun and joy in what you do. It’s contagious and so needed. Thank you both truly for such a great channel and for all you do for bass education.

  • Literally no one can teach like Ian. And he can smash any genre of bass playing on earth with all the joy in the world and without ever looking like he's trying. Love this dude.
