Grammy-nominated session guitarist, producer, mixer, and engineer Paul Moak stays busy on multiple fronts. Over the years he’s written, played, produced and more for TV sessions (Pretty Little Liars, One Tree Hill) and artists including Third Day, Leeland, and the Blind Boys of Alabama. But most recently he’s worked with Heart and Ann Wilson and Tripsitter.
PG’s John Bohlinger caught up with Moak at his Nashville studio known affectionately as the Smoakstack.

This was one of my favorite rig run downs, I’ve seen this dude with Anne and Buk, but never knew who he was, such a cool dud. I’m a fan now!!!
Now I need to know…. What's a "Super Barf Box"? (see 1:08.24) I tried to Google it, but all I got was dog treats because Google's AI is stupid
He's got some really nice guitars. Great tone. Great rig????
He has some cool guitars and one thing I noticed with musicians who also produce is that they intonate their guitars so well! I am a stickler for my guitars being intonated and there are so many guitar players who just don't know how to do it or are lazy or tone deaf, I don't know but people, please intonate your guitars properly! Makes a hell of a difference for a guitar when it's intonated properly, a guitar comes alive! anyway, sorry for the rant John and Crew! Great episode!
John Bohlinger is amazing once again. Great interview!!!
7:32 what's the name of that thing?
Gentleman…….Glenn Campbell played Ovations in the 70's and beyond. I'd be proud to own one. Any opinions on Peavey amps?
.88/Green
Such a cool interview and lovely guy . That Strat and Tele are the business ????
Paul is 100% legit. Thanks for letting us help a bit with this incredible rig!
Paul just seems like a cool dude. Great player as well.
Buddy does play Hammertone.
What are these guitar Straps?
That Octavus Prime sounds great!
Love seeing that DMB pedal on the board! Their old Cosmic Crunch has solved lots of problems for me in the many years that I've had mine.
I was wondering who is this guy? What a delightful surprise.
Super proud and honored to be a part of Paul's rig and The Smoakstack! And we are humbled to work with ALL of the AMAZING players in Tripsitter and Heart! Thanks so much for the feature on our TXRX-S stereo signal system! ????????????
60’s strats didn’t have 3 bolts. If he could only find a longer strap it’d have much better tone. Great hair tho!
Let’s go. Love it
Absolutely fascinating … would LOVE to do some recording there!
I can't find the right trip sitter on apple music. can someone point me in the right direction?
Great episode!
if I had the money to buy a les paul like that, I would pay extra for it having that scratched into the back ????
????The Band Feel Mention ????
Make you feelings into sound then make someone else feel it
I always thought Immigrant Song was so poorly produced. Shocking because Page is the best and the rest of the album sounds great. But on the record it sounds quiet and just murky. A real let-down considering how great it could sound. Definitely the worst sounding song in their catalog. Everything else is so clear and powerful. Don't get what Page was going for on that production. Sticks out like a sore thumb on the record. Needs a complete remix and I think all of Page's work is perfection.
I really don’t ever comment on anything really but this guy seems like one of the best musicians/people I’ve ever seen. Super talented, super humble. Wonderful!
Paul and Tom were really well matched with Ann on the Amazing Dawgs tours…really enjoyed seeing Tom with a proper rock and roll band on the road.
Gear heaven!
My best friend in Nashville … Moak is the real deal!! 82 songs recorded and mixed in that studio since 2008. So proud of that dude! ????????
Always cracks me up to hear Chris Kies laughing off camera!!! ????
Great interview! Holy smokes what a setup!! Thank you !
Thanks for another great video. Love watchin these, and finding new artists and their gear obsessions! ????????
Incredible distortion. One hell of a pedalboard. Very inspiring sounds.
Gotta love the Red Monkey guitar straps ????
The fact that he plays so well with the strap so low is legit remarkable lmao
I have seen that fine Gentleman several times. But the first time to actually get a chance to her him speak and tell some good guitar stories. What a great rig run down. Really enjoyed it. What a great guy and great musician ????????
Great player and musical mind..but that hair has to go.
This so nice..paul is incredible
