For me good technique is having all of the techniques down with control. So they are all tools at your disposal for producing the best bass line for the song.
If you like the sound, and it’s comfortable for you, it’s good technique.

Thats not technique, thats aural improvisation. Good technique is good posture, good position, being expressive with vibrato, legato in the right places. Dynamics. Youre just describing aural improvisation, it's not technique, it's an ability that comes with time and practice, on instrument and ear training. Some of that doesnt even have to be done in the bass, its not technique

Scott, I'm just now (at nearly 63 years old) getting back into playing bass. I needed to hear this. I'm similar to you, in that I love guys who can blaze on the bass. Have a guitarist friend of mine who's told me that for decades! He said it's not important. What's important is what the music dictates! Thanks! I'm waiting on a new Stambaugh custom, just bought a new Genzler rig, using my Helix, a couple Janek Gwizdala books and some SBL courses soon!

What do you do when you have a load of nice gear but you just dont wanna play anything …is it time for a holiday ?
Honestly, while my normal technique is not that great I have a hard time executing the harmony I hear in my head when writing parts but normal practice doesn't seem to fix this. Does anyone know what to practice for that?
