DROP A COMMENT: Is this the BEST Acoustic of all time?

From Gibson:

The World-Famous Workhorse
The J-45 is Gibson’s best-selling acoustic of all time. Nicknamed “The Workhorse” and first introduced in 1942, this iconic acoustic has become the cornerstone of its round-shoulder, dreadnought line. World renowned for its full, balanced expression, warm bass and excellent projection, the J-45 has been refined to carry this legacy to new heights. The Gibson J-45 Standard delivers a sound with incredible dynamic range, warm mids, and a tight punchy bass.

  • Thank you for calling out the branding vs. the measured specs on the next profile. I've been going back and forth on getting the Standard vs. the 50s and a used Banner and I think you just sold me on the bog standard, well, "Standard"

  • High strings sound kinda tinney with the onboard LL Baggs system – are there any adjustment on it to cut back the treble?

  • Thanks for the demo! How about adding a small membrane mic to the C414?
The guitar sounds very relaxed, prefer this to Taylor's cutting highs sometimes.

  • Would you all really let such a razor sharp measuring tape touch a brand new guitar? My hair raises seeing that. Brrrrr.

  • I have a beautiful Taylor built to order for the 2012 Taylor Road show that I bought in 2014. At the time it was a toss up between a J45 that I couldn't put down because it just felt right but it had a certain ring to it that I thought might annoy me in the long run so I bought the Taylor. Now I'm ready to buy a new guitar and I've been trying J45s a Martin D18, D28 and I will try a D35 but I'm thinking I will be coming home with a J45! Thanks for posting.

  • I currently am ????selling my Taylor 414 Sinker Redwood. As soon as I can sell her, my plan is to purchase a Gibson J-45.

  • It's nice to see a guitar reviewed by someone who actually knows how to play instead of someone
who only knows how to bash the hell out of it.

  • Never buy a sloped shoulder. Makes you look like a poor cowboy with the strap around the headstock… ????

  • Great demo…interesting that you showed a neck spec of .89…i think you got a fat one as most slim tapers are low-to-mid 80s.

  • John, why is there no option for J-45 purchase with no electronic’s. Kind of odd. I’ve done many gigs with out any electronics. If you do offer that, please explain and offer cost too. Thank you

  • I’ve had my J45 for a little over two years. Gotta say, it sounded amazing when I bought it new, but the sound has only improved since then, it just blooms. That being said they put a bone saddle on mine for some reason which is supposed to be on their ‘50s original model, perhaps a mismatch or that was what they had to work with at the time? So I swapped it for the TUSQ saddle like it’s supposed to have, and it added another 20% to the sound at least!

  • It looks like the J-45 no longer has the big thick "crystal" pickguard. That is a good thing. My 2016 J-45 had the thick one until I peeled it off earlier this week. The thick pickguard is actually made from two fairly soft plastic pieces that are bonded together; a clear piece on top bonded to a tortoise looking piece. Mine had curled at the corners and the plastic pieces were de-laminating. There is some trivia for you. Great guitar picking in the video by the way.

  • Yesterday I played a J-45 for the first time ever. Quite possibly the best acoustic I've ever played… & I've played many. Right now my #1 is a Taylor 816ce. I can't stop thinking about the sound and feel of the J-45 though!! Any suggestions on the best pickup system for this beauty? ????????????

  • I’m considering picking one of these up in the future. I currently have a d28 and a Taylor and this would certainly be a nice adfition

  • I bought a new 2020 j-45. A wonderful guitar. Gibson could have put a better pickup in it. The lr baggs vtc piezo pickup is clackey sounding. If you like clack this is for you. Acoustically it's great. I just don't like paying a premium price to get clack.

  • The j45 standard is THE best guitar out there. This one sounds brand new, but give it a couple months and it’ll be so sweet and open and perfect.. you don’t need to spend 9k to get the best guitar, just get a j45

  • I chose Martin D28 over the J45 after comparing. I sure wouldn’t mind getting a J45 to add to my collection. A great guitar. Was also considering a D18.

  • I've always love Gibson acoustic guitars. I own a 1959 J-200 in fact. However these J-45s are too pricy, especially when you consider there are better acoustic guitars on the market for much less money. I realize the J-45 is a classic and it deserves its place in the pantheon of classic acoustic guitars. By comparison one can acquire a Zager Zad-900 sunburst, similar to the new J-45s, for about $1,200.00 less. Despite some of the claims that Zager guitars are made in some third world country (a myth) they are quality guitars and absolutely gorgeous. The Gibson company has overpriced many of their quality guitars and consequently players are seeking quality elesewhere for less money.

  • I have a 2001 J45. It was my main gig guitar for years. I love that thing, still my favorite acoustic guitar. I agree with you, it is about as close to perfection as you can get.
