  • Sounds very Marshall-y. I already have a Marshall. Still, will try it now that I need to replace my defunct Peavey 40 watt modeling amp, which I loved, but they always burn out, I went through 4 of them. Better to burn out than to rust, I guess.

  • Absolutely loved the little bit of noodling on Robin trower’s daydream right at the start of the video !! ????????

  • I gigged my katana artist and it buried a 50 Watt Marshal 4×12. And I wasn't even halfway up on the Master volume.

  • Ordered the 50 EX Gen 3… and sent my SPARK 2 out the windows… well… i sold it…. Positive Grid fooled me again… My first SPARK 40 was crap… SPARK 2, just a little less crap…. but still crap. ????

  • Artist: "… but does it sound any good?"

    Err – hell, yeah!

Good review of everything, guys ????

  • Couldn't hear the Artist in the mix hardly at all. It would've been nice if it could've been louder so I could hear a better comparison to the others which were heard in the mix more clearly.

  • Does anyone know how loud the katana 212 waza cab is? Idk if I shouod get the head version of the artist or tje combo

  • I felt the 100w head put out the best sound,,, obviously hard to tell thru a video, but that’s what my ears heard

  • I'm just not sure if the artist is truly worth it? I'm willing to spend the money if it is. But I do like that the base 100w model is easier to carry around

  • I liked the in-ear experience of the 100 the best, but I’d be curious to hear an Artist 100 vs a base 100. The Artist combo in this sounded very small in the mix.

  • While these sound pretty impressive for solid state amps, I still won't be trading my tube amps for one.

There is just an unpleasant dryness to the upper register that doesn't suit my taste. Oddly enough, they can also sound both harsh and muddy at the same time, almost like they're missing the harmonic information necessary for more detailed tones.
Solid state has seen great strides in the last decade or so, but it still won't replace tube amps for pure tone or power.
To each their own though… I'm glad people have more options available to them.

  • I had an EVH 5150 iconic head with the 6L6 tubes. Spent $1000 on the head and another $600 on a used Marshall cab. But I still needed effects to run through it. I played a Katana Gen 3 head at Guitar Center and ended up returning the 5150 and got the Katana for $320. I'm actually way happier with the Katana and I have endless effects on this Amp. Plus I ended up saving $700 returning the 5150.

  • You cannot gig the Katana, have tried a v1 Artist and a v2 2×12 and both were not loud enough to keep up with a band, went back to my Marshall DSL40CR and Fender Twin for gigging.
Dissapointing Boss got so close, but just not enough power, real shame..

  • Great video, but it still is difficult to choose between the Katana 100 or the artist.
I know the artist has a wazaa speaker but I can't hear a difference in the video.
Is there any difference in sound ?

  • Had many amps. One of my two current amps is the Katana 100 Gen3. Very pleased. Particular highlights are the high gain sounds and the Pushed amp model. I had to tweak the EQ options to tame the top end slightly to taste, then the line out sounded fab through the PA (better than the amp itself IMO). I can hear how the mid opens up in the band mix when going from the 50EX to the 100. A touch less 'barky'. I use mine with an ESP Horizon 3, and a Fender Strat. It does take time and patience to tweak to a specific taste, and time playing with it to work out how to tune you and the amp together. Worth the effort though.
My other amp setup is a small modded valve amp and pedals, costing multiple times what the 100 Gen 3 cost in total. I use that for a country and rock & roll band with a Nashville B-Bender Tele. Horses for courses.
