I have them both and can’t make up my mind which I like better the Pro II P or Pro II J… To meet myself in the middle I picked up an American Performer P bass. Its a PJ with a modern C neck which is just a touch less chunky than the Pro II P that has the’63 classic C neck. The J pickup in the AP allows me to dial in a slight J sound that beautifully complements the split coil P pickup. Between the three I’m in heaven but still can’t make up my mind which I like best!
Heres a precision v jazz bass comparison video – oh but i've put custom pick ups in the P bass. Completely pointless video then.
You need both plus a Yamaha BB2200
Are Fender strings being used on the P bass?
I can hear a little more sustain on the lower frequencies with the P bass compared to soloing that single coil on the jazz but not by much. I think it's a great idea to have all three P, PJ, and J.. and stingray, and HH, and fretless, and Rick, and Thunderbird, acoustic, Hofner… ????
Fun fact, Maxwell Murder by Rancid 3:00 was actually tracked on a jazz, not a P.
I prefer a Stingray over these two.
P BASS ALL THE WAY!
P bass with a Jazz neck, flats, foam, metal covers on, and one finger.. ONE FINGER! Ok I use more than one finger but one is all you need.
i want both !!!
The one from American musical that actually ships????
Stingray. ???? Leo Fender’s last masterpiece.
It's crazy how much a J with the bridge pup shut off sounds like a P. Still a little too bright so roll off a bit of tone. The J has slightly more dynamic range than the P too.
Regardless which one of these basses you buy first, anyway you will want the other…
Always choose the Pbass. I have a Mustang PJ player II bass. And also a fender Japanese sunburst jaguar bass with a small jazz width neck and a precision bass pickup installed instead of the two jazz pickups it comes with
I actually like the jazz neck pickup a little better than the P.
Sublime, Santeria! What do I win?
P-style is the only bass youll need but J-style i very cool
You need both. And a PJ. And a Ray. And a Rick.
Nice video.
I’ll stick with my P Basses. Split pickup only. Pure tone, no noise, no frills. Through a Sansamp, I get just the beautiful tone I’m after.
