The funkiest bassline is on her first LP "Plantation Lullabies" "Call Me"
While I agree, and not because I'm a bit bias, she was a childhood friend, this is one of the funkiest bass lines worth remembering. Of course there's so many others of notability, but for your challenge, Parliament Rumpofsteelskin is a fun funky one for me, there are like 4 bass lines. It takes you through more than a few passages that are really fun to go though for me. It' not as funky as this one, but it's funky fun to play. But then there's also Larry Graham Love and Happiness. Monster song.

Meshell was just being interviewed by Don Was and one thing she said that early on she realized she would never be a virtuoso. She wasn’t the one who flew technical trapezes. She worked hard, learned her strengths and weaknesses as a player, and focussed on her musicality and interactions with other players. It’s about playing the best notes, not all the notes in the universe.

what is interesting about the middle section is that it is actually SLOWER than the rest of the song.. not by much, but it is there and intentionally, I read an interview with the drummer about this years ago. It's crazy.

one of my favorite funk albums is 'pandemonium' by morris day and the time. i revisit it often, my kids went through a bruno mars phase and i said 'this guy bruno got his entire act from morris day and the time' and introduced them to the album. they regularly request it in the car… if you aren't familiar, check it! ALSO, the same group changed their name due to contract BS with prince, they called themselves 'original 7ven'. THAT album is killer too! it's called 'condensate'…
