Boss Katana TONE TRICKS – Parametric EQ

The Parametric EQ in the Boss Katana can be quite daunting, but broken down into its elements can be easily understood. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

  • I copied your settings from TSR clean on Artist Gen 3 to my panel but it doesn't sound the same. I feel dumb for not knowing how or why but i hear a difference when i switch back and forth. Maybe i should return my katana. I have no clue what I'm doing unfortunately

  • I wonder what an EQ would be like to get closer to Frusciante's tone…

  • One thing does interest me is the EQ amp in and EQ amp out… would love to see a video on that @thestudiorats
I've seen guys even using another eq on the effects also.. seems like a head fry, but I have been using the eq on the amp out and that has been brilliant.. but sometimes it can sound too thin post eq

  • Great video! I've been trying to tweak a metal tone I've been working on and and I had quite a lot of high end fizz and boxey-ness.. although I didn't want to lose too much low end, using this has helped.. I also took my gain down from 60 to 35 and that's helped with the fizz and more clarity

  • Frankly, my ear is not as good as yours. Wish I could just bring my Katana and LP to you and have you do it for me.

  • This function is what makes me truly hooked to this amp. I can even (somewhat) replicate another speaker. Its an amazing function truly

  • Great video. I really need to go into the parametric eq on katana librarian for my artist mk2 and tweak it. Quick question. Sorry if it’s a silly one. Still a novice with the amp. Do I need to do it for every channel saved? Or does adjusting the parametric eq universally apply to all channels?

  • I liked the way the tone was to start. IMO, there are some many great tones. Sometimes it can just be left alone.

  • Amazing video, just what I needed! Another thing about Katana 50II is that what I hear from the speaker is very different from recording with usb which I do a lot for my Spotify music. When I have good sound in the speaker the recording get muddy. A video that analyze what the different is between what you hear in the Katana speaker vs. usb would be very interesting. Maybe changing the speaker would help. Someone suggested Celestion FX12-X200 but I would like to know if it's worth the money.
I also did a practical "solution" today by unmount the speaker and put an outcut of a tshirt in front of the speaker. Sounds silly but it made it less harsh. lol
