Hey man, what’s your keyboard? (Not the midi keyboard) need me a new keyboard and that one sounds nice
As a guitarist and songwriter, my biggest benefit with programmed bass or drums is that I can easily write/record entire songs on my own with a professional quality that I do not have the equipment or environment to match. They are so useful for just getting an idea down instantly. Making writing more fluent and enjoyable. And even though you need to have some understanding of how the instruments are played, you do not need to be a bassist or drummer to achieve pro level sound. These along with stuff like neural dsp are straight up GAME CHANGERS for me and my personal set up.
Is midi bass actually better than real bass? Well I imagine that depends on situation to situation. Like who's playing the bass. If I'm recording the bass, then yes, midi is better. Miles better. It's not even funny how much it's better.
MIDI bass doesn’t go home after 2 pints
Well, what am I doing with my life? ????
YOUR NOLLY PRESETS ARE INSANE
Really cool way of writing! What’s the name of your electronic drums? Been trying to start writing drums your way too but don’t know what drum kit to get.
total Currents and Krosis vibes, this is impressive man!
Programming MIDI is such a daunting task ????
where should i look to learn runs like that to put in riffs, that sounds almost periphery-ish
The action of your guitar is to low…excessive fret noise
Such an insane amount of talent in one video. Keep it up !
Hey buddy, can you write a bad riff for once? Sincerely, all of us mortal guitarists.
Bro when that harmony hit holy fuck! I lost my mind! Sounds so good man, you're beyond talented mate 😀
Big love from the UK
As a bass player, I'd love to play half as good as I can just midi bass ????
Reminds me of 'Alpha' by Periphery a little, especially the beginning of the riff m/
MIDI Bass just works. I've only used a real bass on one song in the last 5 years, and I just wasn't that happy with it.
No
Why would you want to sound pro in times when „pro“ is synonymous with „boring“?
I‘m old, so what do I know, but I think MIDI bass sounds shitty and fake.
Hey! So I noticed you have an Apollo, do you run a di box into the Apollo or just use the hi z input?
Fake bass better than real bass. Earlier I saw a post of Lorna Shore’s drummer talking about not recording kicks because they’ll just program them. Holy shit they weren’t kidding when they said your generation is lazy as fuck
19:48 bro just causally drops the sickest clean breakdown ever ???? I need to hear this whole thing
Owner of a Warwick Thumb and bass player for 16 years here ???? This is just my opinion, but I do agree that Midi Bass programs have a lot of value to them. I tend to record everything myself but that's because I've been playing for years and it's my main instrument and it's just what I love to do. Like Nick pointed out, there are lots of benefits for using midi bass especially if bass isn't your main instrument and you want to speed up workflow with consistent results over different projects. I can even see myself using these once and awhile.
However, when it comes to live music, each year I'm seeing more and more bands play live without a bassist and just use the midi. Of course, there are economic reasons for having one less member and it's easier to tour with one less guy. But as a bass player, going to see a band I really like and not seeing a bass player live really sucks and takes me out of it. I find this trend is growing, especially in the metal community, where everyone is using the same plugins and now a virtual bass playing guitar parts, it tends to start sounding all the same. Miss the days of unique players like Steve DiGiorgio bringing flavor and texture to a piece. But I guess that's just me being a bassist lol.
FYI – Im not really referring to Periphery as their arrangement is they never want to replace Nolly which I respect (and he's still technically in the band). But it still kind of sucks I can't see him (or someone) play anymore.
Great demo !
sounds like a riff I'd find on a periphery record, very nice
Manuel Neuer Djenting hard as always!!!!!
What drum library is this? Sounds killer!
Nick, is that kit the Fesley FED1000W? Also, I assume you mapped this into your DAW for GGD or whatever you are using? How did that work with this set?
Hey man Sick Riffs !! what drums do you use?? sounds super clean and punchy!!
Crazy enough, I also have 2 dingwalls on my rack, but still use midi bass most of the time just BC it's kinda quick and easier. Plus I use it to make sure the guitars are in tune. I always "say" I'll re record the programmed bass, but usually don't.
It is truly insane I've been watching since the call me maybe cover. Keep killing it my guy these trt's are fantastic!
12:08 – the only time he's ever looked like me recording. Absolute BANGER this week.
❤ plz don’t stop, can’t stop now.
You got to flambe that banger! ????????????????????????
I just bought this the other day and flex pitched my guitar riffs to the bass and then mixed it up. I didn't dive deep into it yet, but this video helps. Did you have to import those key switch settings into Logic? Subbed also!!
I think you nailed why I prefer programmed bass. A good bass, with a good bass player recorder well is going to beat programmed bass. I am not a good bass player and my bass is trash.
I'd love to see you check JST heat. It's their new plugin. I've been using it and think it's super versatile and would love to see what you do with it.
Please finish this next week! Sounds great man!
Bass Players are Slackers
This song should be called
Strangle Things
Whatever benefits you think the real bass have, to have them there is a lot of requirements and hustle for them to be "good enough".
– Someone with skill to play it
– Good enough bass guitar, fresh strings, correct setup (intonation, action, truss rod, tuning), set knobs appropriately.
– actually recording it (input gain, consistent performance, takes, edits)
All that and more are required EVERY time.
Is it just me or does that sound undynamic af. Like listening to someone talk but they can't stop yelling the whole time, eventually you want them to stfu. Its obnoxious. Or maybe metal is just not my thing.
What about some 1/4 note cross-sticks on the snare at the beginning of that bridge!?
I liked the video for the under desk doggo
Quick answer….it is!!
Absolutely love this riff. It’s giving Intervals. Just listened to The Way Forward and this is so Aaron Marshall. Just in time for the new intervals album and tour
Gah dang I love this series
Who's Camilla tho?
