  • I recently purchased a fg5. Went into the store to buy a martin, taylor, or gibson. The fg5 was well set up in the shop and just kills for the price. Had no choice but to change my plans. This is why you have to try them out.

  • Gibson L-OO Special (suburst) is on its way to my door now. Came in right at that $2,000 mark. And it’s a beautiful sounding piece. Been saving my time waiting for this. I started out with a cheap $200 guitar and I’m glad I did. Some practice and abuse goes along way to figuring out how to play and maintain a guitar. Humidity really is a factor!

  • I don't think we are getting the full story on some of these guitars. We can appreciate that guitars are made in the USA or Mexico, but is there a deliberate difference in build quality? I am not talking about materials or appointments but rather the Mexico plant being instructed to produce guitars that are inferior to those built in the USA.

  • Taylor 314-“You get a lot for the money”. I disagree, you don’t even get solid wood guitar. Ridiculous Taylor charges over two grand for a laminated model. No go for me.

  • I bought the 000-15SM from Coop and Chris a couple of years ago and it is a fabulous guitar. My complaints are that Martin ships guitars with the action very high, so you need a tech who you trust, to set it up. In my experience, Taylors for the most part are ready to go out of the box. Martin are like Levi's raw selvedge denim, they take time to break in and cannot be rushed. My 12 fret Martin is just (finally) starting to loosen up. If you haven't purchased a guitar from Alamo, I highly recommend them. They made purchasing via text painless.

  • Breedlove oregon myrtlewood series ,its a hair above 2000,but you can find them second hand well below that and they sound fantastic, pure magic

  • Not a wood pick guard on the FG5 (and variations). Per Yamaha's spec sheet and web site, it's "Wooden Type". I've seen quite a lot of new and near-new examples where the fake wood texture sheet is peeling off the plastic backing. This keeps me from buying one.

  • Just sold my FG5. Incredible sounding guitar, but gosh, no way to lower the action below 2.5 mm at the 12th fret. Way too high for my liking. So the play-ability is mehhh… (also because I am used to low actions e-guitars). I knew that before buying, but it ended up being a showstopper for me. If you are used to high actions, then it's a no-brainer one. Having played Furch, I can tell that this is will be my next and only acoustic guitar. Godly play-ability and excellent sounding guitars as well.

  • It’s funny how things change. When i was a teenager epiphone was considered an entry level cheap guitar only.

  • Agree on Yamaha. Got a LL-TA transacoustic , all ARE solid wood and integrated chorus and reverb. Got fun playing it every single day

  • Horrible tuners on the 15 series. I walked away from buying one they look so ugly.

  • Started playing a year ago on an electric (Strat). Decided to get an acoustic. Went to GC and played a bunch of pieces from various manufacturers. I didn’t have a budget in mind just whatever felt best, easy to play, and sounded good. Ended up buying a used Taylor 224ce Koa off Reverb. The neck shape and size simply feels better and makes it easier to play.

  • Fantastic video. As a player looking to move up from a Yamaha FG730s (which I love) you have given me much to think about. The fact that you are both amazing players as well as guitar geeks with deep dive knowledge of the brands and their products instills respect and trust that your reviews and opinions are well founded from an extensive experience and hands-on perspective. Thanks so much for producing and sharing this video. ✌️

  • Well I have a few thoughts…

First that Epiphone SJ-200 sounds legit! The several I’ve played were terrible sounding guitars. Although considering how poorly my ten year old Epiphone held up, I do have concerns over time

Second imo the FGX5 is the king of this price range, although if on a budget the Alvarez MD60 (or MD70 if you prefer rosewood) is worth considering.

My final thoughts is if you are looking for one nice acoustic and get to this price range, keep saving and don’t let money steer you away from what you really want. Unless it’s a FGX5 in which case you’re good and imo that is a solid choice regardless or price.

  • Why don't you like Eastman? I also like Seagull – they make some great guitars that punch outside of their space.

  • In Europe, the 000-15M increased from around €1600 to €2100 ????
