SM7B vs SM57 Guitar Amp Mic Shootout (Tele + Tone Master)
In this video, I compare the legendary Shure SM7B and the classic Shure SM57 on my Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb using a Telecaster.
Both mics are running through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface, and I do my best to keep the test as fair and consistent as possible.
???? Does the $500+ SM7B justify its price over the SM57 for guitar cabs?
Let’s find out!

Cool song
Sm57. Has more of a low mid punch. It could be because of the sm7 is more centered on the dust cap. You really can’t go wrong with a sm57
The SM57 is an instrument microphone, the SM7B a vocal microphone.
My main guitar amp microphone always is an SM57, the second one, to add some more low end, usually a R121, but sometimes, for slightly more decent results, I also like an SM7B. But I would not want to use an SM7B as main microphone, then rather two SM57's for Fredman miking or something like this.
SM58 also could be a comparably cheaper alternative…
I thought the sm7b had alot more life to it !
whitney houston used the sm7b exclusively I believe that is correct, they took the foam off for her I was told.
The 57 especially on the high/mids of the guitar are much clearer. The 7B didn't pick up the G and B strings as well as the 57 did. I feel like if you angled the 7B differently, you would get a different sound because the design of the two mics are completely different.
Honestly, I listened to all your videos with different mics, I watch YouTube in my studio with my studio speakers and I really didn't hear enough of a difference for me to say one was better than the other.
You need an A/B switch
7B sounds tinny
The '57 wins. Better oomph response. The upper air of the sm7b really does nothing for the guitar speaker.
The deluxe sounds nice @ 5
