Dave Kilminster Pedalboard Build & Interview [On Stage For Roger Waters]

Dan gives you a sneak peak into what he does for a day job… with the help of an amazing musician!

Welcome to the show, Dan here, hello! Today is a very different kind of show – it’s me doing a sort of behind-the-scenes of part of my main working life at TheGigRig… which just so happens to be putting rigs together for professional players.

I’ve known Dave Kilminster now for a long, long time. For much of the past two decades he has been playing guitar for British rock icon, Roger Waters, who still tours the world playing giant arenas and the like with all the passion and theatre that originated in his Pink Floyd days.

While doing the board for Dave, I thought it would be a good opportunity to have a chat with him about what life is like in one of rock’s greatest gigs.

Huge thanks to Dave for having me along!

ps. ‘Jake’ in this video is Jake Willcock who works with us at TheGigRig.

  • I prefer Dave Kilminster to Dave Gilmour. Gilmour's solo on Comfortably Numb "Live" is unacceptable.

  • I'd really like to know, how the Preamp-Channels of the Amplifier can be switched via this rig

  • Dave always seems like the nicest guy, and such a great guitar player.

  • Brunetti makes such incredible amps! I have ten other amps but my Brunetti Singleman 50w is the best single channel that I ever had.

  • Really beautiful video! Being a Gilmour’s fan, I’ve never thought someone else like Kilminster could ever take his place. And I know it sounds weird but…after seeing Waters live in Rome and take a look to his work during this years, I got to say that Kilminster fits very well David’s habits, trying to being respectful with the originals but even carrying something personal every time. And, being also proudly Italian, knows that he’s playing Brunetti and Paoletti it likes me very much. Last (but not least), Kilminster’s way to approach to the music is the same approach of mine and I had the same experience, in my simple guitarist’s life: I still play by ear and reading a single note it tooks me 39 seconds each note!???? I really love his way to “live” the music he plays, even if it’s not his usual background. Hats off to him and (of course) Dan’s work, still perfect and focused! ????????????????????????????

  • I am producing a retrospective film on Roger Waters. Could I please ask permission to maybe use a couple of small clips from the video?
    Kind regards

  • My fav pedal ever made, Hermida Zen Drive. That's a handsome looking board chaps. Mr Kilminster is going to be thrilled. Thanks for sharing. I have a Paoletti, it's made from wine casks, beautiful Guitar and it's a rare lefty. An anniversary present from my wife.

  • Can you guys do something on the Kasleder Toxic Twins pedal? Such a cool pedal. I would love to hear you guys play it.

  • Dave: "I'm a little nervous tonight actually now"
    Dan: "Why:
Dave: "Well you're in audience for a start "
    Dan: "For crying out loud!"

That tickled me. Massive respect to two guys who work at their craft to such a high level, yet wear it lightly and are so generous with it.

  • I first saw Kilminster at Hammersmith with Steven Wilson and he became my favourite guitarist at that moment. Still is. Head back. Lives and breathes the era I come from and there is no one else that can come close to that.

  • At 17:36 when Brick Top came out dancing, I knew how much would be riding on this pedal board working as planned. Be very wary of any man who keeps a pig farm.
