just play whatever and however you like, tones are personal preference. And dimebag also scooped his mids which made his signature killer tone
Thanks, guy no one has ever heard of
Didn't Dimebag scoop mids? A lot of bass guys do generally and might do a solo part without them too. Play what ya like
Mids are also important for multi-stringed guitars.
Mids are your friend,
Mids are life.
What about Dimebag?
Kirk uses a tube screamer to crank the mids when his solos & leads start.
Mid on guitar are from 500hz to 4khz….boost 2k
Scooped mids = Percussive and rhythmic playing
Raised or fair mids = Broaden for leads
I’ve tried soloing on scooped mids and it sounds like crap. To me, the tone sounded flat and not breathing. Raise the mids to 1-2 o’ clock and it sounds more open. But even playing on raised mids can give a cocked wah sound
I did put my minds to the max while keeping the low end and the volume at the minimum and treble at a decent level and the overall sound of my guitar tone was transformed. Turning up the mids is even a pre-requisite for playing in a band because the guitar being a mid range instrument, one needs to cut through the mix which makes logical sense.
Scooping mids is better if you're playing bass, especially distorted bass. You have a lot of frequencies that will just cause a lot of noisy mud in the low mids coming from a bass guitar. Also depends on whats going on with your mix. Do you have a part where your lead guitar is playing more sustained notes over an arp pattern played on an acoustic or electric on a clean setting?
Never scoop mids, biggest mistake ever. Kills volume and kills tone. You don't cut through the mix when you scoop your mids so no one hears you. Cutting through the mix with mids and upper mids is the guitar players job in the band. Bass frequencies are taken by the bass and drums. So stick to your area as a guitarist. You'll sound just fine. How you sound to yourself is far different to how you sound to the croud. Try to sound good for the croud and the band.
