Guitar Tones of Slayer – Marshall DSL100 & Softube Kerry King Amp Bundle

Slayer have the coolest riffs in metal. I don’t know how they make them work with weird chromatic phrasing and runs that don’t make sense but they get stuck in your head and can’t be anything else.
The DSL100 does a great job at delivering Slayer’s tone, especially if you plan to record with it using Softube’s Kerry King amp bundle. I’ve covered it in the past and done loads of covers with it. Extremely cool plugin for anyone interested.

Open up the tone studio with your katana connected and go to the top right corner and click the down arrow. Locate your file and it’ll bring it into your library where you can drag them across to the katana 🙂

  • How prominent is the sound difference between the dsl100 and dsl20 in your opinion? I’ve been following your channel and tone guides for years and um wondering if a 100 would be a good investment

  • Did you ever get a reissue mark2c+ I did about 4 months ago and still haven't hooked it up yet. Still obsessed with the blackened tone and have spent thousands on the tone. Love your videos Lamb chopper. Really great having someone like you to get info from so thank you.

  • Band called DOWN with Phil Anselmo. I love their riffs and a Tone. It would be awesome if you could cover their guitars. Cheers!!!

  • Somewhere, some dork is commenting on the internet that you can't play a V sitting down, haha!
See how The Chopper just holds the whole guitar with his legs and takes all tension off the arms to save energy for the riffs of SLAYURGHGH!!

  • Nice video, I am one of the kids that was able to go to every slayer practice in the 80s and eventually work for slayer and became friends with them ..interestingly enough back then Kerry and Jeff only used the modded jcms with a big boss 10 band and that’s it live ..things changed after reign but guitar set up was super simple

  • I have the DSL20 head and am quite impressed with the bang for buck that it is. Through a 212 cab with Greenbacks I can get almost any tone when I toggle between channels. Your Spill Blood riff is scary good too. Slayer is a hard tone to get as most 80s type metal has the mids completely sucked out.

  • On the 10-band eq, one could always simply cut the unnecessary lows and highs to clean up the tone and trim off the excess.

  • Don’t get me wrong, I love the big four and some of the other American thrash bands, but do you have any plans to cover some of the German bands, classic heavy metal, early death metal, etc. ? I always try to look around on YouTube for some of that stuff and I can never find it. I figured I’d ask because I know if there was anyone to nail a metal guitar tone, you’d be the one.

  • Your bird is digging the Slayer riffs just like the rest of us ! Well done. My little DSL 15H covers Slayer well with my 94 Jackson Kelly and a tubescreamer TS10 for a lead pimp slap. Gary Holt uses the DSL100s and two Maxon OD pedals, one always on, both for leads with Slayer. I know, when we think Slayer we think KK. Jeff H. and Gary Holt had killer tone too.

  • The magical middle slider on the Boogie Marks is 750k. The MXR 6 band has the 800k. Those seem to be the most powerful with a guitar.

  • Thank you for always sharing with us, whether it’s your presets or
thought process. I recently picked up a nanocortex and to be honest the ability to use all of your captures was a big selling point. The time and effort you put in to making everything accessible for all of us is incredible.
    Thank you.

  • Fairly new to the channel but really enjoying checking out all your vids. Your Neural DSP presets and IR’s are superb! Thanks Lambchopper!

  • To me the MXR 10 band eq pedal is a copy of the BOSS RGE10 half rack eq. Same frequencies but they added a gain slider for some strange reason. Adds unwanted noise even when all the way down. I took the slider off the board added a few wires, no noise works great.

  • I love my DSL100H/HR’s. I learned to like the OD2 once I reduced the gain 2 clicks. OD1 max 7 gain OD2 max 5 gain. Otherwise as you said it gets spongy, I call it muddy. It’s darker but still crunchy. Love your playing.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Ollie was the cutest bird I've ever seen and actually made me consider getting one. My wife HATES metal and your videos were the only ones she would watch with me because of Ollie. Every now and then she would ask me about Ollie believe it or not. It broke both of our hearts to hear that about him. Does your other bird speak too? I am happy to see you back doing your thing! When I would get stuck on. LoG song, I knew you'd have a cover of yourself doing it. My only ask is to do some more covers or maybe a hybrid "achieve the tone to play 'X' song and here's how to play it"? Just an idea. ????????????

  • Maybe it's just me, but that tone has zero low end and alos all the low mids seem to be sucked out. I know that for a mix and band setting you don't want to have a lot of bass in your tone, but this to me sound almost lo-fi.

  • World painted blood and everything else you played sounded really good. Not just the sound of the amp but your playing is excellent man. Thank you
