Hammer ons are easy for me but pull offs are very hard

I'm scared I might pull out the whole string
I seem to be able to do it without plucking any strings, just fretting with the left hand and playing notes, although my gain is all the way up ????

Hi Andy. I can get a hammer-on when I first pluck the same string but find it a bit of a challenge to pluck the low E string for example and then try to hammer-on, say, the A string? Is it, like most things, down to practice, practice and more practice?
