What are some Steve Vai tunes I should check out other than Bad Horsie
I own one of these. It's by far the best guitar you can buy for under $1000. In fact it's better than some guitars that I've paid a lot more for. I use it for gigs coz it does the job and does it well!
I never look at the dots of a guitar Why should i?????
Ofcourse the guitars are selling out because Steve Vai designed the jem Ibanez guitars????
Still got my jemmy jr. Love it.
It's a fun to play guitar. If the build quality is solid, just swap out the bridge for a GE1996T and it's a beast.
They dont sell the yellow one anymore
… i always thought the jem jr what a child sized scaled down guitar…
Unless you're going to sink money into a jem Jr., i would get the RG550.
Jem Jr. is a great build platform. But the fit and finish is what you would expect from that price range. It works and looks good. But it's not the same as, say, a MiJ jem or PIA quality. You will likely still want new pickups, Trem, and a fret job. And once you add it all up, you have other contenders to think of.
But it is a really cool guitar for the price. Thank you, Vai, for making it accessible.
I need one with rainbow paint do they have that?
proud of indonesian products…
Jem jr still relevant to this days, I have one what a lovely guitar ❤️
Plannin to sell my 2021 RG550 and buying a JEM JR! The RG550 is a cool guitar but the new ones from 2017 has so slim neck that they are uncomfortable for me. My guitar teacher has multiple 80's – 90's JEMs and Fender Strats and for me the best neck shape is the Strat but I still want an Ibanez so I would upgrade the JEM JR with DiMarzio pickups… What do you think about it?
I had an original 2015 white Jem Jr. with a rosewood board. It was a total piece of sh*t IMO. The quantum pickups sucked, the Ibanez DL tremolo sucked, and the neck would always shift. I was always adjusting the truss rod and the guitar was kept in a climate controlled room. I switched the tremolo to a Gotoh 1996GT and that was a POS as well. An overrated trem, the knife edges started to chip within 4 months of using it. I dumped that guitar and never looked back. It's a toy, the sh*t unstable neck sealed the deal so it wasn't worth throwing in new pickups, and I'm a guy who's been playing a long time and I can pretty much work with/play any guitar that's in my hands. I'm not saying a good player can't play it through a good rig and get a decent sound but it was a "dead" guitar. At least the one I had. The pink and yellow ones have the Infinity pickups which are better sounding than the quantum pickups that come in the white one. Some people seem to love them. For a low to mid end end Ibanez, go buy a 2011 RG350MZ or a 2013 RG450M (if you can find one), they both stomp all over the Jem JR. and the newer offerings from Ibanez. Ibanez changed the tremolo and necks (for the worse) on their mid level stuff in 2015. I have a 2013 450M in Voilent Violet that kicks ass. I didn't change a thing on it.
Dude, what tune was thst you played at the beginning of this video??
Ive several fender abd gibson custom Shop….but this here in black is my absolut favorit …..every day practise axe…..its awesome…????????
Warm Regards ❤
These are decent guitars for the price. I had the original "Jr" the Jem555 that was made in Korea with Evolution pickups. If you're just really after that Jem aesthetic but don't want to spend a lot of money, these are a good option. The thing to keep in mind about these is that, aside from the inlays and cutouts, they don't do anything special to this guitar. It may say "Jem" on the headstock, but it's essentially the same guitar as their RG450/470. These are all being made with the same materials, in the same factory, by the same people. So don't expect it to compare to a higher end, made in Japan, Jem or even an RG like the 550/570. I think a lot of people go into reviewing this guitar with higher expectations because of that Jem title. At the end of the day, it's still a $500(ish) guitar. Still a solid option at that price point, but you can get a RG450/470 for around the same price and have the same quality instrument. Just depends on what you're looking for.
Gorgeous intro song
i bought the white one used back in 2017, I believe its a 2015 first year model I think of those. It is Mahagony body and rosewood fretboard. Meranti is hardwood from Asia that builders started using to help keep costs down, Jatoba is pretty similar to rosewood and some builders started using that when Rosewood got banned for awhile and I think it is more cost effective as well They've been selling jr's for 500 since 2015 and as we know prices on guitars have pretty much skyrocketed these past 4 years, so cost cutting to keep the prices the same. I got it from Guitar Center used online. It was missing the trem arm, and it had a few little dings on the back. but I got it for 200.00 total. I had a Black floyd special laying around I threw in it and All White Dimarzio's SD3 for the bridge, a Paul Gilbert Injector for the mid and an Evo for the neck I also had laying around and Black locking tuners. I later replaced the pickguard with a black pearloid and now it has a Gotoh Trem but out of the 20 guitars I have at my house, it still gets played a lot. And honestly, I replaced the Floyd special only because my friend wanted me to upgrade a copy guitar from China, so I threw that in there and I had ordered a few Gotohs so I threw that in there. Never had issues w/ the special like I was expecting. But for under 500 they're really cool guitars. I prefer the Wizard 3 neck on it over the Super and 2 and Nitro necks I have on different Ibanez guitars. What I like about these is they're again under 500, throw in a Gotoh (which drops right in, same w/ Floyds), replace at least the bridge and neck pup ( I really like Ibanez stock mid pups so twangy all my other RG's have stock mid pups) and for 800 bucks you have a great Jem that's still half the price of the premium models. And 500 bucks, the Gio's w/ Dl trems are 400.. I'd much rather pay the extra 100 bucks for the jem jr. 500 is the same price for their lowest RG w/ the same pups, trem, so why not get a Jr that has a little more character…
As a proud Ibanez RG470 owner for over 10 years, I can say for fact they make KILLER mid level instruments. Ditch the INF pickups (they are nasty) for literally anything else and you got yourself a workhorse.
Guitar center has not been able to give away this guitar for years. Definitely not the hot seller that you are making it out today
My personal experience with the jem jr is that they are great looking but not great playing. trem sucks, pickups suck. Just spend a little more and get the premium jem. Much higher value than the jr.
I'm a bit of a Jem-a-holic and own 12 different models – from Jr's to Limited Edition Fujigen models (e.g. 30th Anniversary). My two preferred players are a Premium Jem70V-SFG and a mildly modified Pink JemJrSP.
I shaved a few mm off the back of the neck on the JrSP, scalloped frets 21-24 and gave it a Tung Oil finish. I also fitted a Brass block to the Trem and a set of Floyd Rose posts (great sustain and zero tuning stability issues). Apart from a few cosmetic mods (e.g. different control knobs) the rest is stock. It's a phenomenal guitar. Simple as that.
I also own a White Jr which has had a Trem upgrade to Gotoh GE1996T and a cosmetic "Evo" makeover. It's also a fine guitar but it's just not as good as the Pink Jr. Find a good one and love it!
That tremolo system is the only gripe I have about the guitar. Gotta change mine soon.
I have the yellow. I added green knobs and a pink switch cap and painted the claw area pink. I also swapped the tremolo for a Gotoh 1996T.
Bought one recently. When it came the nut was so high it was almost unplayable. Undeniable fun to play and everyone should have one but….. I had to change the nut and shave it down. Seems like quality control isn’t perfect but it’s so much fun. Not for the beginner. Know what you’re buying.
Behind you at 2:22 is an Ibanez RG550 Desert yellow?
Why is it a jr…..?
I've got all 4; Jem jrs all upgraded, and the iconic monkey grip is cool, I've got a 1987 loch ness green Ibanez with maple neck pyramid inlays, the yellow and pink your playing are sp models with infinity pickups as the white and black non sps have Quantum pickups,I customized all 4 to be exact copy's of my 1987 Jem 77 ,painted tiger claw cavities and handle,Vai neon trus-rod covers, pink on yellow and loch ness green on the pink one ( your testing)sanded back of necks, etc wish they would put out a Jem jr with pyramid inlays, maple neck, Ibanez it would sell out so so quick! Great playing guitar s,I swapped my tremelo system out for a Japan 1996 gotoh and drilled out those small studs that fail over time as the guitar gets age and wear on it,and a Japan low system edge, off of a rg450? Ibanez non floating tremelo off a Japan rg 350,450,550, ❤❤❤ stock pickups for now but DiMarzio upgrades The yellow you can't find anymore, discontinued, and about $750-1k used on reverb,eBay,etc and pink it stays sold out,for $500 new great deals! Plays awesome and sounds good,I wish they had this deal back in 86-87 when I started playing guitar,no Internet, just guitar for the practicing musician monthly magazines.. ????????????????
I don’t particularly like guitars with a ‘go handle’ , car batteries yes, guitars no.
Sure they are…they look insane. They are $500. They play really well out of the box.
I'd buy the yellow if it was back in stock too.
sweetwater is a great company
Robert awesome video. Amp tones are great!! Axe fx amp! Which amp model are you using on this? Sounds incredible. Thanks for the great videos ????
I used to own one. Nice guitar, holds tune perfectly if properly set up.
What was that intro riff at the beginning. Smooth tune. Vie?
There is 1 thing with these that stands out to me, especially at the price point: The sustain.
Every one of these I've played has had insane sustain compared to most guitars I've played.
This might be the pickups or something about the body, but either way, it does make you play a little differently.
Now, for the price of one of these new, you can find used guitars with sustainer pickups (here and there), but that's a different thing really.
But imagine putting a sustainer in one of these.
I had the old Jem 555 when I was 20 ish in the early 2000s think it cost around £500 new then I remember it was made in Korea had DiMarzio Evolution pickups basswood body maple neck rosewood finger board tree of life only up to the twelve fret edge pro ll trem
I have a white one with pink gavity storm pick ups it really up the game just changing that. If you put evolution pick ups that will give you a 30th Jem sound. I love my Jr it is fun for sure.
I have the yellow version of this guitar and love almost everything about it except for the tremolo. It's so bad but other than that it is awesome! I have the trem blocked till I can get an upgraded GOTOH bridge. I got mine for $300. Pretty sweet deal! I got a video up on my channel about it! Great spotlight Mr. 80s Guitar Man!
This is just my opinion, but I quit playing any Ibanez with a Pick guard and pickups inot mounted solid to the body because they sound kind of hollow to me
someone gave me a special edition one that was stringless, nut missing, 1 pickup missing ,all wiring messed up, missing a tuner…. found out later it was one of those special 1 of 25 ones, just all jacked up, my friend got it from a friend as a gift, didnt really know , knew i loved shredders gave it to me… put it in my trunk… forget it was there for 2 days….someone broke into the trunk to steal my subs, and got the guitar also….. super sad day… didnt know till a couple years later what guitar i really had, and i was super sad… im sure the theif threw it away or has no clue and its sitting in some shit pile somwhere.
F Sweetwater
Nice. I would change those pickups first if it was mine. Great for the money
We do just like paradise in my band. I had a 7v for a few years. The top edge used to dig into my forearm.
Thanks for the suggestion of a few guitar shops a few weeks back. Ended up in Fanny’s three weeks ago because a friend wanted to go there. That place is a really cool store. They let you play everything and hang out. Loved a ‘67 Honor 12 String they had. We’re back in Nashville now riding out the storm. Should have been riding motorbikes over in East Tennessee but came to hide out here.
