Ok, we all want to play fast, right?!
At some point in our past we’ve all tried to get a more complex groove or lick into our playing, it’s been way out of our comfort zone and ultimately ended up sounding messy, uncontrolled, and nothing like what we’re actually aiming for.
Well, don’t worry – I’ve been there… but you’re in luck, as there’s an awesome exercise I developed specifically for building speed on the bass.
In fact, where playing fast runs in concerned, this exercise has contributed more towards my technique than another exercise I’ve ever used. Ever!
Remember though – technique changes can take time. You’re retraining your brain to alter the messages it’s been sending automatically for weeks, months, and in many cases years and years. Be patient and take you’re time. If you stay focused, this exercise can and will make a HUGE difference to your overall facility on the bass.
As always, see you in the shed…
Scott 🙂

did i miss the giveaway?
guys do you think i mightve missed the bass giveaway?!
Thanks Scott, so simple, and so effective! Happy New Year!
Are you using hammers ?
Que case de velocidad más incoherente y tonta.. ????
Oooh man ,,, I'm in 2024
vid was great but wouldve been better if there wasnt sniffing every 5 seconds
por cuanto tiempo es bueno Praticaelos?
I want one
This exercise, albeit from your video that 6 or so years newer lol, was one of the biggest eyes openers for what I was doing wrong with my right hand.
Not just that, though. It's really shined a bright light on issues with coordination between right AND left hand, so I actually look at it as an exercise for that as well. Just mentally and visually focusing on one hand, then the other hand, and then both hands. I try to do that process for at least 10 minutes every day.
It's also a killer warm-up! ????
I'm going to sign up for your Technique Accelerator course this year. This video (and the newer one) has clearly demonstrated the need for me to pull that trigger! ???? ???? ????
I think I missed the giveaway by 8 years.
Trying to change the thumb position is very hard for me. I feel like I can't separate what my plucking hand is doing from my fretting hand. I guess I just need to really slow my metronome down as well as my ego…i guess I just feel like I have been playing for so long with bad habits and no actual practice that I am having to re-learn better technique. It's very discouraging but I love bass too much just give up. Thanks for your videos!
Thank you ????
it’s 2022, y’all still giving it away?
I think I missed the giveaway
7 years late, I missed the give away 🙁
Fantastic.. I'm a beginner but was doing scales far too slowly and this made sense to me. Definitely great to repeat this with other modes.
It‘s especially interesting to see how one‘s
right hand works when one is playing this with three-finger-technique. Crazy!
Thanks a Lot Scott, learned a lot
enough talk lets play..
Thx man much respect
Great lesson! Thank you very much!
This guy gives the best lessons I swear.
damn, just missed the giveaway.
Didnt i just watch a video on why you shouldnt play a 5 string bass?
here for the giveaway
am i late for the giveaway ?
You have changed my life with this lesson, thanks
Yeah great exercise indeed !
I really hope I win the giveaway!
Yo is the giveaway still going
Oh man! I missed the drawing by 6 years!
darn i just missed the giveaway
The bass still available in 2021????
Question and i hope you answer this: DO you need four fingers for this?
I'm not sure but something's telling me I missed the give away
I have two questions:
Is it always best to start plucking with the index finger?
Is it best to learn alternate picking all through this exercise or do you use economy plucking/picking or does it not matter which you use?
Hola una pregunta que bass es ese en Colombia los vende y que precio tiene ese bass
god I love bass so much
uh can i still have the bass? better late then never
me watching this in 2020: ;-;
the entire video is just 4:39–4:43 for me
Great lesson! Thanks Scott!
