Counterpoint Jazz Guitar – Discover New Harmonic Ideas – Advanced Jazz Comping Lesson
Guitar Jazz Counterpoint! Is there really such a thing? This video is a practical take on what Counterpoint could be in jazz and how you might use it to make more layers in your II V I comping or Chord Melody arrangements.
This lesson is going to cover how I add another melodic layer to some simple II V I ideas. I will also go over how you can use jazz counterpoint as an approach to add fills and movement in a chord melody arrangement. For this I have included the beginning of the song Stella By Starlight harmonized with this approach.

Mr jens in what ratio is this counterpoint??
How do you keep fingernails on the right hand while playing a steel-string?
Wonderful. This is just what I’ve been searching for!!!! Wonder teacher!
Thank you!
Hey Jens, thanks for your videos. I've been playing guitar for roughly 12 years and one of my friends turned me onto jazz chords 2 years ago. I'm now writing with jazz voicing and this is really helpful because I feel really in the dark about where to go sometimes with my progressions and that's really foreign for me to be honest. thanks again
Absolutely Awesome! – Excellent and Precisely Perfect! – Watch and ''LEARN!'' – Many Thanks, and, Happy New Year!
Superb high quality info Jens. Thanks!
Very nice! – Thanks!
Hi dear Jens, this ideas could be applied to another jstyles, like a jazz-blues progression? Thankk you!
Excellent!
amazing lesson, very inspiring! thank you jens
Thanx Jens, great lesson! im just taking it slow, and practicing hard on my comping. With your your help this doesn't seem like rocket science anymore. Thanx for the triad's and arpeggios! I love those guys, they brought me out of my slump, added a little life to my solos, can't thank you enough.Oh yeah, I wanted to ask you, Can you show me anything on using octaves?Like a song,or exercise,or somthing.I was listening to Kenny Burrell, this weekend, and Wes Montgomery. Those dudes could work a groove. Anyway I got to crawl before i can walk, you've giving me plenty of material to work on, Thanks again brother!
Good stuff, as always. Some of your lessons keep me busy for many weeks on end.
Great lesson!!!
This jazz stuff is so refreshing!, I"ve been in a rut playing my guitar. From writing my own music, to playing riffs, and aspecially, my guitar solos. So i came across you(Mr. Larsen) and you really helped me out.Im just getting into jazz, and its like learning to play all over again.I just want to sound jazzy man! I know i got soul!I know my modes(church modes),Its just only so much you can get out of them. Watching your videos, has helped my playing Immensely!I got frustrated with a advanced lesson of yours, and just started foolin around with one chord, that turned into a bitchen song!I started using arpeggios that I learned, with my other knowledge, and got a nice solo going. I actually sound jazzy!I love the arp where you use an Eb triad, then slide up to Dm. over Cm . very symmetric,so sweet! I had to borrow that one :). Thanks Jens, you rock!
Great lesson and " perfect" form (composition , ex) , details (diagramms) and video realisation .
And a new look since a while. Bravo to your new coach! 🙂
super arañas master
Love your channel Jens! Your videos have helped me a bunch and I'm inspired by your playing too!
I been waiting for this! thank you maestro!!
loving all these comping lessons! please do more!
Thank you, Jens! Awesome lesson!
I tried doing this years ago but then my progress was slow and I went on to other things like soloing as most players do but this lesson has given me a good method to continue this type of study and it looks easier now. Another big Thank you, Prof. Larson Lol Cheers
YES!!!
This is awesome! Jens! Thank you
