But,but my instagram photos…
Truth! I bought a used epiphone DR100 whatchma call it, I think it was $80.
Anyway, I knew going into it that I was getting a laminated turd, just for taking tailgating, camping, and leaving it in the truck, and I wouldn't give fk.
Its painted all black with a little gloss so no figuring no grain anywhere, it didn't have a pickguard so I put one of those big 60s/ 70s gibson style pickguards, on it less than $10 off Amazon looked cool.
It had very thick strings on it, so I threw on a new set of dadario 10s and boom it came to life, it is somewhat comparable to my J45 and my Taylor 714.
Will it last as long probably not, does it sound as rich no, will it sound better with age nope, do they all sound this good or have that high-end quality control, undoubtedly not. But there is certainly an impressive lesson there, and depending on what pickup you put in. Once amplified, they can all sound pretty close.
I bought my first Martin a few months ago and I literally cannot stand to play anything else now.
I don`t get steel string guitars. The luthier needs all his skill for "voicing" the top and then glues a pick guard onto it. And after that they talk about tone…
I have 4 Ibanez RGs, they look killer, and play and sound awesome.
Spot on, Jeremy.
That’s a pretty guitar
One thing I would advise when trying out a guitar like this, try some hammer ons and pull offs on the 1E thinnest string and make sure the string doesn't slip off the fret board.
Great advice.
But…but…????
I find that this is especially true of maple because tonally it's like nails on a chalkboard. OTOH I feel that while visually mahogany is uninspiring, it is the most beautiful wood I've ever heard.
I think Iris guitars are in this realm, the aesthetics are simple but every one that I've heard sounds beautiful. Do you have one on your radar Jeremy?
It’s all in the build. A guitar is only as good as the build. Wood tones help a lot, but if it’s a crap build, it’s not going to sound good at all. That’s why we should support and buy from luthiers if we can.
How dare you
I really like the sound of that guitar, but like you said, there are many factors for that. I'd love to play that guitar.
I agree it depends on the materials, shape, and size.
Actually , the plainer and simpler the better . Peace ✌
