Vengeance Style Pedal Tones #neoclassicalshred #shredguitar #alternatepicking #stratocaster #strat

One of the least-noticed aspects of this lower two-tone pedal form is that Yngwie doesn’t begin on a downstroke and therefore doesn’t pick it inside the strings like most people. Instead, it starts with an upstroke from the get-go and all string changes occur on the outside.

At slower speeds, this uses some wrist extension to get to the E string notes but, as you might see here, at speed, raking through the higher string – on the last 16th note downstroke of each beat – imitates the feel and visual of an upward escape picking phrase.
