Today I’ll do a Eastman AR503CE review. Eastman builds great guitars and the Eastman AR503CE archtop is a bargain. So let’s find out if it’s the perfect archtop jazz guitar or if it’s too good to be true.

I’ll review the acoustic and electric sound in professional recording quality. I’ll also tell you my opinion on the playability. The Eastman 503CE guitar comes with slightly different neck specs, so we’ll see if that’s any problem or maybe even an advantage.

I hope you like my Eastman Ar 503 CE review and give it a thumbs up. Please also share the knowledge and check my Jazz guitar gear playlist from the link above.

  • As it happens, I've just put a deposit on a 2nd hand Eastman AR 403 CE – which I think has a laminated top – but it still sounds pretty good.

Bella recensione, grazie

  • I'm thinking of getting an archtop hollow body. Can't decide between this, the Eastman AR503 or the A371. Any thoughts, anyone?

  • Do you still enjoy this guitar? I haven't seen you using it any videos since this review.

  • I'm a big Eastman fan – have 3 (AR580CE, AR371CE, and T184MX). I swapped out the stock Kent Armstrong pup on the 580 for a Benedetto A6 which is similar to the Seth Lover in that it has a warm, clear EQ sound. Thanks Sandra!

  • I just bought this guitar in sunburst color – I really love the sound of it plugged and unplugged. This is my first hollowbody “jazz guitar”

  • Please always remember that when something is too good to be true it always is. These guitars are made under pitiful conditions in the very repressive Chinese dictatorship no matter how much they make propaganda videos making you believe otherwise. There are lots of nice guitars being built in many other countries that do not have this terrible track record on human rights and no matter how much you think you love this guitar this fact will be always there.

  • I loved the review, so HAD to subscribe! I've had a 503CE for a few years now and just LOVE it. It's all the jazz guitar I'll ever need (and a wonderful gift from my wife 😉 ) .

  • Great review Sandra, that instrument sounds fantastic for the price range.
Three odd years ago I swore that the guitar I purchased then (Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor 11) would definitely be my last.
Fat chance…now thanks to watching yourself and Rich Severson praising this guitar I’ve got the bug AGAIN!!!????
So now I’m sitting here trying to tell myself why I don’t need it lol
Love that colour too, its the one I’ll choose should I convince myself that I really need it????
P.S. my wife will be so pleased????

  • Thanks Sandra!
Tomorrow I'm heading out to buy a used AR503CE (of course I'll try it first). I had an AR805CE for several years, but had to sell it when Jill (amazing vocalist) & I headed out in our Travel Trailer, and couldn't take everyything. Now she's getting into performing more Swing, and we are stationary in Port Townsend Washington so I decided I need another acoustic archtop. (I played in a Western Swing Band for ten years before I met her, so have owned many archtops).
This 503 came up on Craigslist, being sold by a retiring professional guitarist, and looks like it's very well cared for, and I wanted to know more about the model, and you just gave me the info!! Thanks!!

  • I bought the Eastman AR 880 CE John Pisano model and it's a lovely guitar. A step up in price, but it's all solid wood. Like the 503 CE it's dimensions are comfortable and it's very light probably around 6 pounds. Thanks for sharing

  • Hi Sandra,
After watching your review of this Eastman AR503CE I went ahead and bought one.
Fairly happy, just wondering what type of strings you have on yours since the strings mine came with don't really work for me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

  • you should really check out the Eastman T-184 (14" thin line body-(perfect for you!) really light too…but BIG sound. It's an all solid woods guitar (what you want!)

  • I saw your review on d’angelico mini dc, I wonder if could give a review on the d’angelico EXL 1( hollow body arch top ).
    Thanks

  • I used to have a nice Chineses guitar but when I saw their arrogant and un-apologetic response of the Chinese dictatorship after their third pandemic that killed millions, made billions sick and costs use trillions I didn't enjoy playing it any more knowing that it helps support this murderous regime. Afterall, this is a discretionary purchase and if you have lost anyone to Covid you may want to consider supporting other countries…

  • This sounds great as do all your guitars. Also, great playing as usual. You mentioned you got a guitar that has dead spots. What exactly are you referring to here? Do you mean the note doesn't sound at all or does it just sustain much less than it should? I have a $2500 hollow body and the note on the Bb on the 6th fret on high E string does not sustain nearly as long as the other notes on the guitar. When I play it, it rings out for only 1 to 2 seconds whereas all other notes sound for at least 3 seconds. So if I play this note in a chord melody arrangement, the note on the B string rings out longer, and dominates the Bb note.
Have you seen this phenomenon and how did you remedy it?
