Something i should have tried instead of resting my thumb on the pickup.
But I am too and set in my ways – I'd played root notes with a plectrum until i was mid-forties, before trying the root to fifth country style and the R-3-5-R walk and using fingers a few years later.

I’m trying to learn this as I start learning bass. I notice you use your thumb to mute the same string the rest stroke lands on. Isn’t that redundant? I wasn’t using my thumb while playing either of the 2 lowest (note) strings, just the top 2.
