I love the fact that you are not “spoon-feeding” the information to your viewers, but rather challenging us to put in the work, and figuring it out for ourselves. This harmonized scale idea also forces me to truly train my ears to listen for the intervals, and also my eyes to recognize the patterns inside the big scale shapes that I blindly memorized
Chris I gotta say after all the internet searches and bits and pieces of licks and patterns etc… I found your page through Marty Music ( who is awesome too) anyway please keep teaching exactly this way! I have had so many Ah Ha moments watching your videos. Your dedication to the craft is incredible! I will definitely be signing up to your courses soon! Seriously brother just wow! I have studied theory for years and your lessons are literally putting it all together for me! I am in a deep dive and your style and delivery is beyond EXCELLENT. Your a true teacher and the best I have had since I started this journey! You Rock! Look forward to meeting you online and thank you from the bottom of my heart I mean that!!
Evan S……????
Love it! " From the guitar out"! What a great inspirational learning theory. That said I resisted greatly. I wanted the tabs; but as I forced myself to explore more, I am beginning to see its power. So give a man a fish or teach them how to fish?
brother you are not coming to the point… your re confused …
Are there backing tracks to practice this?
If yes, where can I get them. I'll pay, no problem…..
This is so good. I wouldn't have gotten it a year ago. It's coming at the right time. Thanks! Subscribed love theory.
Incredibly Helpful! And Would Love 2 See More re. Harmonizing Melodic Lines As Well!
Chris, i feel like I've learned a lot of music theory over the past 2 years that I've been playing. But I'm going to do your exercise, because it seems very valuable to me!
Also, i noticed the decapauge (sp?) on your guitar. I didn't notice until the end of the video because i was focused on the lesson, lol.
So, i can't to tell who that is, or what they're doing…but i sure like the idea!
Didya build the guitar from a kit, or is it another type of partscaster?
Seeya in Nashville, Feb '25! Bring that axe!
????????????
Grabbed a pen and a pencil, did the bloody thing…and two days after that, I'm seriously considering subscribing as a Patreon. Thank you for the enlightenment!
????✌️????!
Great stuff! You are an excellent teacher and I am now subscribed????
Great lesson ????????, new subscriber*
Excellent
I’m still lost someone please explain. Ok so let’s say I’m a bassist and I’m do the scale of C major. What scale would the guitarist use to harmonize me?
Great info Chris. Thank you. I heard the Dixie Dregs in the late 70's in a small venue setting in Nashville. It was either just before, or just after they released "Free Fall". We just wandered in, and had never heard of them before, and had no idea what to expect. I was actually expecting some kind of Country Music act. WOW!!! I was so blown away. All instrumental music, played by absolute virtuoso musicians – especially Steve Morse. Much later, after the Dregs were disbanded and Steve was touring with just a drummer and a bass player, I went to see him again here in Kansas City at the Grand Emporium, another small, intimate venue. Between sets, Steve walked by our table, and I just said hi, and told him how amazing I thought he played. He pulled up a chair, let us buy him a beer, and just talked guitars to us for the entire break. He was such a nice guy, and had some great perspective on the life of a professional musician. Anyway, he is one of my top 5 all-time favorite players. Thanks for mentioning him.
The lesson you wish you had years earlier. Great teacher
Chris, you are a true teacher! And by not spoon feeding, there's a better chance of retaining these revelations than, like you said, mapping it externally. These kinds of lessons are spot on with where I'm at with the guitar. Thank you! And when it can inspire a new song, man, that is sweet.
Best teacher on the internet
Once we have them done how do we go about taking it from an exercise to actually creating music with these patterns
Some musical demos would be great
I love how it is asked if we want to see more of these videos keeping in my that this is how one of the best Guitar Theorie Channels started, lol
Ive watched this video i swear to god over 50 times
YES!
Terrible
Brilliant! I was so keen to try this I had to pause your video ????
Cheers Chris!
Great lesson, thanks. What is your signal path/amp? Ta
I love how you explain things. Ive been looking at so many different channels and sources but you Sir are just beyond!!
This is incredible knowledge for every guitar enthusiast.
so sooooo good man. Thanks.
I love this type of content! Thank you for sharing this with us
great lesson! really enjoy your approach to theory!
Hey I'm hoping someone can help me, I have worked through playing the A major down 5th fret but I am stuck on moving down the strings. I wrote out the letters from the A major scale and then tried to reflect them down the strings but I can't seem to get it. I will keep re-watching but any advice would help 🙂
more of these please!! + the extra assignments:))
Now thats the way, the ONLY way! use your Brain by yourself ( short version)
Thanks, plz more of this!
Just discovered your channel it's great that you're teaching this way I feel I am learning the guts of the machine rather than just blindly following.
Brilliant! You have a habit of shining lights diwn corridors that Ive walked past a hundred times without a sideways glance. Now Im running down them and finding good stuff every time. Archaeology rules! Thanks Chris.

I’m 32 years into my guitar journey. Your opening sentence hit the nail on the head.
Good stuff, going through your library at my office, realized in A, I don't have enough guitar to play it. Had to do it in F.
You asked as listeners to comment if we enjoyed these kind of lessons. I’ve got to say I find them inspirational. I had come to a point where I could play the guitar really well or at least I thought I could. This is just blow my mind especially the triads, how do use them and I love these exercises which help me learn the keyboard to a great extent to introduce runs into soloing so please give us more.
Chris, I'm loving these more theoretical lesson formats! I know enough blind licks to pull out of my pocket, but your lessons and the way you teach really forces me to think and dissect what I'm doing to better understand the guitar, and music in general. Amazing job! Please keep it up, I know it must take a long time to shoot and edit these videos, but they're such a great help!
You asked me to leave a comment, so here it is:
27 years ago I started to play the guitar, learned the open chords and power chords, then for years I could only play rhythm. Then life came in and my guitar was sitting in the corner, collecting dust for a good 15 years.
About a year ago, I bought a small practice amp, and I decided to finally learn to play it propperly from the begining. Now I had the diatonic and pentatonic scales down and I was trying to progress further, by learning arpeggios/triads, to be able to improvising melodic solos.
Only a few days ago I've found your channel and in this few days, I've learned from you so much more, than in the past 27 years combined.
You know, a minimum knowledge is needed to ask a meaningful question.
When I found your channel, I was full of questions, but now I am just watching your vids with 3 eyes and 2 ears wide open, and feels like I still need to learn a lot before I'll have questions again!
When the time will come, I'll see you on your patreon site.
Untill then I just want to thank you!
Great lesson! I can’t wait to try it!
I totally understand those aha moments!!!! Wish they came more often. Thanks to your videos they are more frequent.. thanks you ????????
Thats a genius teaching !
So why is this useful? Not trying to be rude, just curious.
Per your request, I wanted you to know that I love lesson like this one. I have learned so much about Guitar from listening to your videos. Keep up the great work.
