This Guitar Looks Great, But… | Gear4Music Harlem S-7 Unboxing

  • I wanted to buy a 7 string guitar, that I wouldn't use often anyway.
So I bought a Harlem 7-string (220€ including shipping) just because the Jackson that I wanted was not in stock (covid times)
I new that I would get what I paid for, but I know how to make a guitar setup, including fretwork.
If you don't know how to make a full setup, then DON'T BUY GEAR4MUSIC guitars. 🙂

The first thing that I noticed when I opened the box was that the pickups pole pieces where not straight with the strings
When I tried to play It had the same issues with yours
So I straightened the pickups and screwed them down to the body
Then the strings where very close to the pickups, with the bridge saddles at the right height
I made some wood sims for the neck pocket and that solved this problem
Now it was more playable, but there was a lot of fret buzz
So I did a full fretwork
After that I did all the adjustments to the trussrod, intonation, saddle height, and made a new nut

    Now plays nice, but
for someone that has to pay for all this stuff, it is not a good choice
If you want to learn how to set up a guitar it is a nice choice 🙂 🙂 🙂

Now I want to make an active preamp with bass-mid-treble eq, to see if I can make it sound better
It will be the first active GEAR4MUSIC 7-string guitar 🙂

  • So basically no one would recommend this one ha? This would be my first electric guitar and I was so excited because it’s really budgety, but like someone commented, I don’t want to be put off by the bad quality. Because wise he tested here didn’t sound good.

  • The tuning is because of the nut. A $12 Graphtech nut will fix that. The pickup sounds like its wired to the switch backwards.

  • I wanted to buy it, maybe build a new neck for it, replace bridge and pickups… But i think 200 euros is too expensive for what i want which is have a RG style painted body … I dont know. The guitar doesnt look well finished. Maybe i should wait and see if one pop up used for sale

  • Well, get a fret levelling, change the pickups, put some locking pegs and you get a cool 7.

  • i have one of those, it stays in tune….drop a , bridge pickup sounds great for riffs, its actually my next to the sofa guitar in the living room, i love play at it, and i have expensive guitars to compare, mine is great. just added split coil to it for more tones. and some fret polish. an i paid like 80 dollar ..

  • Had the same issue when I tried one ended up returning it for a refund but also seriously bad fret buzz from 1st to 5th horrible experience even with trying the truss rod adjusted

  • I’m looking for a cheap 7 and even 8 for teaching. So I don’t want to spend a lot until i know if i like it for my own playing. This one seems one to avoid, I wouldn’t bother trying to polish a turd. I was looking at the Spira 7 strings, i think they are a metal arm of Jet guitars who seem to have a good rep. Maybe you can buy one of those and try it so I don’t have to ????????. Jokes of course, but might be worth a look. Think I’m gonna take the plunge

  • Return it. Don't waste money on fixing it. Looks and sounds to me like a turd. Needs new pickups, probably new electronics, definitely new tuners, maybe a new nut, and probably a fret dressing. It'll cost way more than the guitar. Not worth it for anyone paying out of their own pocket. Oh, and you gotta refinish the headstock after you remove the ugly logo, as well. ????

  • Very annoying that gear4music hasn't learned what quality control or to go to a different factory most of their guitars that I've seen are so shit that it would likely put a beginner off all together unless you've had a few years of experience in modding or fixing guitars there is no point buying them
