Donner Pedal Power Supply | Review & Demo

I really like this Donner Power Supply. Costing around $35 buck, it is a no brainer. It comes with everything you need to hoop up just about any guitar pedal to it, including a rare 3.5mm adapter and a polarity reversal adaptor. It will power eight 9v pedals, including one 500ma pedal, one 12v pedal, and one 18 volt pedal. This power supply will suit the needs of 95% of guitar players. Are there “better” power supplies out there? Yes. Do they cost 5x as much? Yes.

I have a ton of pedals and for various reasons end up putting a couple pedalboards together each year. Whether it be me redoing a pedalboard or building one for a friend, this style of pedal power supply has been great to work with. I really like the option to have the led lights on or off too.

  • Will this work for 8 standard pedals? Im looking to build a board from scratch and this might be a good, cheap option to set everything up

  • I bought one, seemed nice, good price, and it lasted a bit more than a year with marginal use. Probably just unlucky, but a waste of money for me.

  • I want to know who is actually touring with this? As in using multiple venues with different wall power? Clubs, Bars and Churches with lots of LED stage lights will make stage power noisy. Old bars with poor internal wiring will be noisy because most of them are in 100-200 year old buildings with two strand wiring and fake grounded outlet covers… ask me how I know ????. Anyone that plays at county fairs or music festivals know that the smaller ones power their stages with distant generators will be less then optimal. Those are some of the ones I’ve personally played but I’d like to know how this would hold up in such a venue. Cheers.

  • If its got a good acdc converter and is isolated i dont see how it can be better or worse in any perceptible way? Other than maybe features, number of jacks and output etc?

  • i think this is a good alternative and a good price compared to its counterpart (voodoo lab) that are absurd prices that people that already spent thousands on pedals don’t wanna spend the price of another pedal just to power them its bs

  • I can power up my pedal board but when I add my singular sound looper which is 9volt, it doesn’t power it up? Do you know why? Thanks

  • What is the purpose f this video? There's no real information in it. OK the device powers the pedals, but so does a daisy chain. The idea of buying a power supply with 'ISOLATED power to each pedal is to do so without introducing unwanted noise and hum. At no point in this video is the performance of this power supply to do that. Even at £35 it's three times the price of a Tourtech 1 amp plug style PSU which is only £9.99 o Amazon. So the reason someone might pay three times more for a PSU (and PSU's can cost £100s) is for the ISOLATION and flexibility IE, the ability to power multiple effects with varying voltage requirements. You address NONE of this. Waste of time. Your review was essential, hey look everyone it switches on and has pretty blue lights and look the light comes on, on the pedal.

  • Just bought the DP-1. I understand it's not truly "isolated" but I couldn't resist $35 and mostly good reviews on Amazon. Got 2 gigs coming up. I may return here and give my 2 cents to help out the conversation. High end power supplies are very expensive as are high end pedals. You could be in for $1000 pedal board if you go all high end. I can't afford it. Anyway, thanks for the review. UPDATE: I have two of these underneath my pedal board now powering 9 pedals. I have used it on two live 4 hour gigs. The power supplies are totally quiet and work great. Best deal out there, even if not isolated which hasn't been a problem for me.

  • That Boss Tuner is a power supply as well. You could hook up an extender to the second power supply jack and it will run pedals. The feature uses a different boss power adaptor so it can deliver more miliamps.

  • I bought one a month ago for a pedal board that I’m building and I’m hoping it will be a good one… it was a stab in the dark.

  • Thanks for this video. I’ve been looking for a reasonably priced power supply. Question; I am a busker, and I would like to run all of my pedals from a USB power source. I understand that I need to step up from 5 to 9 V. Can you recommend a good method for this? Many thanks for your reply.

  • I use Warwick's power block on two of my boards.

I started a stoner rock board recently and didn't want to spend too much, so I took this one.

It is also marketed as asmuse, but it's the very, very same thing.

    It is absolutely amazing!

  • I wanted to know how much difference does this power supply make with a wah around and digital pedals around. Is it less noisy than daisy chain the main power adapter that comes in the box?

  • I bought one and all the input jacks are loose and cause all kinds of popping and cracking, now maybe I just got a bad one, but you get what you pay for, no disrespect to your video, but buyers beware I reached out to the seller and never got a reply, so now I am out half the price of buying a decent supply MXR brick from a reputable music store, where returns are easy in most cases.

  • Hi,
Is it ok to use one proper power board and to it add, connect a power brick that will power up three guitar pedals in total? I'm using Katana 50 amp and plan to get something like Boss noise suppressor, Revv G3, and a Korg tuner.
    Thanks ????

  • lucky you! I've bought 2 of them and to me they suck. They started making noise after a couple of months, so I decided to get a truetone One spot CS12….problem solved. Those donner power supplies are not isolated. I guess this is another example in which you get what you pay for

  • I read through the comments here. So have we figured out if this one does he actually have isolated channels?

Seems like these days it’s really hard to tell until you have it in your hands. A lot of descriptions say isolated, but are not. Seems like a great deal, but so hit or miss. Thanks! ????????????????

  • I think my black box reloaded would work with this as it is 7volts 100amps. But the normal psu is still working but it is very heavy.?.

  • Hi, thank you for the review, very informative.
    I have a question Sir.
How can I use the last connection?, the one with 9v, 12v, and 18v?

    Reply
  • I have 3 of them. So far, they work flawlessly with many different pedals. You have to make sure all the voltages are correct and your polarity is consistent. Dead quiet.

  • unfortunately i didn't have as much luck since the second I plugged it in it blew up and became unusable

  • This came up on a search but just wanted to drop in and say how much I love my Donner Power Supply. It's quiet, and small and cheap and does the job. It handles all my pedals with power and comes with all the cables I need.
