I Didn’t Expect This from a 1-Watt Marshall Amp

I didn’t expect this from a 1-watt Marshall Amp…

This is the Marshall DSL1HR and MX112 Cab — a 1-watt all tube head and cab that looks like a classic Marshall stack, BUT in a small form factor. In this video, I unbox it, test the tones, crank it all the way to 11, and see if it actually gives me that Marshall sound I’ve been dreaming of since I first picked up a guitar in High School.

I’ll also compare the real Marshall amp against a Marshall tone from the Quad Cortex to see if there’s a significant difference, test a few ambient tones (yes- worship tones with a Marshall), and talk about why this small amp might be an amazing option for worship guitarists, rock players, or anyone after that classic Marshall tone at a reasonable volume and size.

Huge thank you to Sweetwater for sponsoring this video! I’ve dreamed of getting a Marshall since I first picked up a guitar, and now, about 17 years later- that dream became a reality.

I really love this amp- What do you think?

  • Now pop a greenback or Creamback in that cab and be blown away again by how much better it sounds with a better speaker than the 70/80 or whatever comes in the MX cabs.

  • I was a peavey guy for 20 years, but currently I use a Friedman that is based off the Marshall plexi

  • I've been a helix user for about 5 years and just a few months ago purchased a Marshall DSL40CR and it's amazing! Love this thing and use my HX stomp XL for effects into it.

  • My favorite clean tone came out of a JCM 2000 into a 4×12 but it’s a bit chimey and if you want a dead string type jazz tone, you’d be better with a Vox

  • There’s nothing like the sound of a guitar going into a real amp. The feel is different (more real), the tone is different and overall experience is different. Sounded like it should!

  • My guitar heroes all played a Les Paul into a Marshall amp. So, of course, I had to have them too ???? And also of course, I didn't sound like Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, or Whitesnake with their same guitar & amp combo. I went through a lot of Marshall's, a Valvestate, an AVT, an MG, an MA, a CODE, a DSL, and an ORIGIN. But there's something about the high/treble frequencies that always had an ear fatigue to me. Try a 5 watt Bugera or Blackstar sometime, much smoother treble response.

  • I guess we all wanted a Marshall when we were kids hahaha Right now? I will settle with the ones in the Helix. Those are the only ones I am able to carry…
