MONUMENTS // DOXA // Unedited One Take Performance
I’ve been wanting to do an unedited one take performance of a more complex Monuments tune for a while now. Ever since all the Giacomo Turra stuff took over the internet, I’ve been thinking a lot about what we put online as musicians and how the editing process probably isn’t transparent at all to our audiences.Usually I want my play through videos to look and sound the best they can. In order to do that, I usually film 2 or 3 live takes and then comp the best sounding bits together while the camera angle follows along. That way, if I make a little mistake in one of the takes I can just switch to a take in which I play that section a bit better. I don’t ever edit my audio to the grid, but if push comes to shove I will nudge a note forwards or backwards in post to achieve better timing and I might also cut some space in between notes if there’s any unwanted fret noises or something like that.
In the video you’re watching now, there’s none of the above. You’ll hear little mistakes littered throughout the video. It took a while to get this take. This is the one take out of 15+ attempts that I liked the best. Going forward I will likely keep shooting my by comping 2/3 takes. This method simply yields the best sounding results while being very time efficient. However, I do want to keep on doing one take performances like this every once in a while to keep challenging myself since this requires a higher standard of learning the song. Also I feel there’s a need for transparency in this day and age where endless editing and AI possibilities blur the lines of what’s real and what isn’t.Long story short, I think everyone putting any form of live audio online feels pressure to be perfect even though that perfection simply isn’t achievable. We’re not AI, we are humans trying the best they can. There should be room for error and we shouldn’t judge ourselves or others too harshly. Hope you guys enjoy the video 🙂
Tone: Neural DSP Parallax (includes compression and noise gate).

LOVE anything you put through. Amazing reflection on the state of the world, but also, speaking for myself, I enjoy your content and doubt in no way of your capacities and your playing, so no editing would take that away. If this format enriches you then by all means I'm here for it! always keep that monstrous and amazing bass playing!
You are very good at the bass guitar, Werner!
As a beginner, i am so grateful for videos that show that you pros also make mistakes and aren't perfect. I feel seeing this takes quite some pressure out for me to get everything right. So thank you for this!
Also, I absolutely love the playthrough!
Respect for the transparency, composite or not, you still boss it
Werner, really good job! Thanks for the honesty and transparency. I really appreciate that. As an onetake, the performance is simply even more impressive. I like it.
That yellow Dingwall is Werner's baby. Such a killer performance and tone!!
One take performance is such a flex for Doxa, damn. Really tight

Great video and actually thumbs up for the transparency in the description. A bit of editing is fine as long as it's not intended to deceive, it's always been part of the game. But it's even better when it's openly disclosed, so thanks for that !
Smashing, brother… I've always wanted to tackle this one, but do it hybrid finger/slap style.
