  • One of the good things that came out of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic was that certain musicians shared their secrets with us. THANKS, John!

  • To me, this is their best song. Immensely catchy all around, not just the bass . Everything about it is prefect and in so many ways unique.
I can listen to The Reflex over and over and over and never get tired of it.
The vocals, lyrics, groove, drums, all of it. Even the cowbell adds such a cool island feel to it that i love.

  • I never was a fan of the remixed single version of "The Reflex". I very much preferred the album track.

  • I didn't have a lot of albums in high school. But I had Seven And The Ragged Tiger and Rio.

  • John Taylor’s basslines are just the epitome of how to make a recognisable, tight bassline with just the right amount of swagger so that to the punter it’s catchy, to the connoisseur it’s pure style

  • Hey John,
Although I have been a fan of DD since your debut… I just happened upon these tutorials today.
After several videos, I have to tell you that I have never been more in love with DD, and you!!! Still phenomenal mate????
I was fortunate enough to meet Rick, shortly before his passing!! Instrumental in my own cover of Superfreak!! Although a bit heavier than Ricks version… You brought it back to the surface with this tutorial.
    Cheers ????
I'm going to go bang metal and Thank You for sharing your gifts, talents, and inspiration with the World ????

  • I'm a 55 year old metal-playing caveman guitarist. But waaaay back,my first musical heroes were Mark Bedford of Madness, and JT.
I've tried numerous times down the years to have a go on the bass, but it is witchcraft!!

  • Duran was very entertaining to watch and their songs of the 80s were so catchy and always caught my attention. Thank God for MTV back in the day. Hard to imagine how low mTV has become today putting on these stupid teens having baby programs.

  • Niles Rodgers is a great record producer and musician, I don't know if he has been properly recognized. I like the work he did on the Notorious record, having to pull a three piece band together and putting a cohesive jazzy pop funk rock album. Not many people liked that album, it so happens I did a lot.

  • John Taylor was (is) one of my favorite bassists in high school BUT I was pissed at him because my girlfriend who was into country and had never heard of him until I played Rio for her. She fell in love with him and I could only listen to her go on about how "pretty" he was for so long ????. I couldn't fault her.
Me: But what about his playing?
    Her: Whatever, he's f**king gorgeous!

  • Missed this during lockdown – this is totally badass. I learned to play electric bass because of John Taylor, and the Rio bassline in particular. Thank you, John!

  • My sister was a big Duran Duran fan, so naturally I officially hated it. But I'd secretly borrow the records and now appreciate it, especially the bass, all the more. Good songwriting, good parts
