Guitar Lesson 1b: “NAILS 101” – Official James Taylor Guitar Tutorial

  • Have you ever tried using a UV clear coat resin to strengthen you nails? It works great. I have to try the rei forced fiberglass tape. Where can I get some?

  • But the nail can get some fungus and ruin it in the long time.
So knopfler technique maybe a good choice too.

  • James I can't thank you enough for this great educational video. As a fellow guitarist who has suffered from weak and splitting nails I thank you for taking the time to help others. It speaks a great deal of your character.
P.S. Please come back to S. Florida soon. God Bless

  • James, I want to thank you very sincerely for this video on nails. You are exactly 44 days older than me. I was born in Toronto on April 25th, 1948 to a medical family where Dad had been a professional musician at one stage and Mum played classical piano. Dad played piano, trumpet and was considered a world class marimba player. Gramps was both a dentist and a medical doctor. I got my first guitar for my 10th birthday. If I say that it took 3 men and a boy to get the strings to the fretboard, you will know what I mean. Prior to my voice breaking, I was considered an excellent singer and selected for an all boys choir by the head of music at the UofT. We performed at various venues in Toronto, including singing opera at Massey Hall.

I have loved your singing and playing since the very first time I heard you. Through the years, I have bought your songs in every form of media that was current at that time and felt that it was worth it to have your music in the media I was using at that time. I have never stopped loving your style of music and your music specifically.

In my teens, I was a folk singer and member of a number of local groups. In every form of music I heard, I have always been attracted to the sound of finger picking, so I learned that as well. Never, in all these years have I ever found something so that I could strengthen my nails. So thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now all I have to do is find that fiberglass material so that I can have bionic nails like you mentioned in one video.

Thank you very sincerely from one of your longest term fans,
    Bill Baker in Toronto

  • I go to a nail salon with my wife. I have acrylic added to my right hand nails. Their life like and can be adjusted as needed. $10 per nail. Repairs as needed.

  • So good to see "Sweet Baby James" again. My teen hero when I was learning guitar. Wish he could have given me this advice back then.
