He only used the telecaster/ Supro combo on Led Zeppelin 1. From Led Zeppelin 2 onwards he mostly stuck to the les paul/ Marshall rig. Rare exception was the stairway to heaven solo (tele/supro) and Kashmir (danelectro/marshall) Iβm sure there are other rare exceptions but Led Zeppelin 2 is just les paul/ Marshall. The only reason the les paul on the whole lotta love solo sounds so trebly like a tele is because heβs running it through a half-cocked Wah Wah pedal which causes that distinct thin sound which is unusual for a les paul which is why many think heβs using a tele.
Presence has some really tasty licks on many songs- I think I recently heard that he used a Stratocaster on much of this great album. Anyone heard that? Please comment on this if youβve got anything else to add. ????
Execpt Page's Tele had a slab Rosewood fingerboard. His 59 Tele hhe quite liked but wasn't a huge fan of the Maple fretboard Tele as he felt they were too bright sounding.
Also, Page's Tele was given to him by Jeff Beck (who owned it first and used it during his time in the Yardbirds) when he joined the YB's. Page used the Tele for the recording of ZEP 1 but after that switched to his well known Les Pauls from Zep 2 onward. Occasionally using his Tele and various other guitars , but for most of the work Jimmy liked the LP's Humbuckers for that fuller sound.
After Zeppelin 1, Jimmy really only used the combo of Tele into Supro very rarely (including Stairway to Heaven Solo). You can clearly hear that on Zeppelin IV and especially Physical Graffiti, he mainly used the Les Paul into Marshall Plexi.
Onβ You Shook Me β Jimmy used a Gibson Flying V through a Leslie Amp .
I heard that he used a flanger in the guitar solo to whole lotta love
Page did a lot of Zep 2 on the road, during the tour. Heartbreaker sounds like a Marshall with an LP to me.
