Joe Satriani’s dual delay settings (made easy!) in under one minute.

Hopefully this is a straightforward way that removes all confusion. Clip borrowed from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQq7rSvaPJ4 “Satch Zone” a nearly 4-hour lesson. BTW, I have other videos, also. 🙂 This also frees you from being afraid to touch anything on your delay pedal once it’s “set”, since it’s easily repeatable.

  • If it helps anyone, I have downloaded the audio file and measured in Pro Tools.
It's essentially a Quarter and a Half delay at around 145 bpm.

    Short (Quarter note, main delay, DD3 at 1oclock ) = 412ms
    Long (Half note, DD3 maxed) = 815ms

More recently, he's been using faster delays with the vox time machines (800ms half note delay is veeeery long)
    Main Short – 317ms) – Modern / HiFi (brighter no modulation like a dd3)
Long – 534ms – Vintage / Lo Fi (darker and modulated)

These way the delays clash more, like a Quarter and a Quarter Triplet.

    Hope it helps

  • Thank you for posting this! I remember seeing the original vid and was thinking I had to find and wade through it to find these settings.

  • Thanks, do you know if there's another upload of the 4 hour lesson you mentioned? The link you put up says it's no longer available.

  • If you want to know what levels Joe sets his delays at, it's there in the thumbnail (w/ Autoplay turned off so if you refresh the page you see the thumbnail and have to hit play to start it).
