Never miss a Rig Rundown: http://bit.ly/PG-RRnewsletter
Premier Guitar invaded Rival Sons’ soundcheck for a Rundown of Scott Holiday’s offsets, Oranges, and three boards worth of tone treats.
Holiday wanted a guitar that fit the sound and image of Rival Sons. He went with “Bluebird,” a 1999 Gibson Custom Historic 1965 Firebird VII Reissue. It’s totally stock and strung with Cleartone (.011–.050) strings.
When Holiday wants to get low and rumbly, he goes with this 2015 Kauer Baritone Banshee Custom, strung with Cleartone (.016–.071) strings.
For something hollow-ish, Holiday plays “Ol’ Bess,” his 2014 Fano Alt de Facto Custom GF6.

Wow. He doesn't now they come with V30s but he works for a guitar magazine?
The first fuzz pedals were advertised as horn replacement and it's stealing the maestro logo????
Man, no question one of the best bands, with the best human, doing the best rig rundown! Class act!
Scott is great!!!! Thanks for the wonderful gear review!!! He’s so down to earth ????
Gatemouth baby! You didn’t mention Gatemouth.
24:32 Good response. Can't argue with that. Not a huge fuzz fan, but I love what Scott does with it in Rival Sons.
Firebird made me think of Wishbone Ash this time lol
Alan Collins
Wow! Excellent interview! What a great guy besides being a huge talent.
Let's not forget Warren Haynes and Clarence Gatemouth Brown as fans of the firebird. I love the tones both of them wring out of it.
Wished for a taste of each sound as well. Great job though you get what you get. Ultra cool !
What a cool guy.
I love it he took the time to go over each pedal and explain not only what it does, but how he uses it. Just picking up on the 'Fuzz Lord' Killer Stuff!
YES! I am a dork and loving this vid!
Scott H is so chill and cool. Love the comment that he wants to use all the pedals to recreate all the songs live.
One of the best rundowns here. Fun and informative. Congrats to everyone involved.
Is Scott any relation to Doc?
Surely we can get an update in 2023
baritone is more GUILD than Gretsch like the aluminium
I thought I was the only one who described guitar tones as being, 'wolfy,' – for me that wolf sound comes out when the guitar is in a low tuning and the strings are just fat enough for P90s to pick up the residual vibrations.
I have a 2017 firebird t and its one of my favorite guitars. super fun
Awesome review of a rig .
"and if youre watching this, youre a dork too" I feel attacked hahaha ????
#FACTS haha
Is it just me or he really looks and sounds a bit like Jim Root? ????
Wait my family makes cables?
When you're talented and a gear Junkie!
This is an insanely talented band and this guy is phenomenal
“Big Firebird guy” but couldn’t name Allen Collins?!????????????????????????
Firebird Free Bird, it’s not hard.
The aluminum one looks like something Billy Gibbons would play
Yup switch it up but keep the original parts
I read an interview with Steve Miller years ago where he said he used a firebird exclusively in the studio to record Fly Like an Eagle and Book of Dreams.
Nice Rundown, seems like a pretty cool guy
Nothing nerdy about rock n roll, guitars and stacks! Seriously the world hasn’t changed that much I hope.
Yes Scott, I'm a DORK fer shewer!!!!
"I can't afford that guitar! I've got two kids" He says as he grabs one of his 10 guitars.
Long Beach City!
Scott holiday is a legend I’m going to their show next month and I can’t wait!!!!!
I would say after hearing him play that he has spent too much time spent waxing his mo and not enough time spent developing his chops.
Cool dude! I totally agree and love the fact he focuses on recreating the sound they sold the fans. Outstanding! Love it
Anyone who cites what Marc Ford uses, knows what's up.
Hey Scott Holiday save some cool for the rest of us.
Love Firebirds.Great Rundown
