Vox Mini3 G2 (Battery Powered Amp) Review

Vox Mini3 G2 (Battery Powered Amp) Review

It’s as big as a Roland Micro Cube, which is a bit bigger than most battery powered amps these days. How does the Vox sound? Well, that’s what we’re here to find out.

The Vox Mini3 G2 isn’t a brand new amp anymore, it’s been around for a couple of years. Anderton’s reviewed it a couple of years back, but I thought I’d buy it, and give it a go. Hope you enjoy, and please comment.

  • On the plus side it can chug. Maybe not very well but it can chug, chug, chug. But, alas. All for nothing as the plastic construction and possibly the tiny speaker hinders its potential. This experiment into plastic toy chassis was Ill-conceived . I rate it as dodgy Not quite as bloody awful as the orange crush mini. Although the orange at least has a speaker line out to plug it into a big cabinet as a saving grace.

  • The speaker is good, but instead of distortion pedals, you should turn up the compressor and if you want a fuzz on low gain or overdrive. Your clean boost isnt that clean, but i know a lot of players want that sound. Also a nice reverb pedal and playing with your nails would improve the sound IMHO. I have this amp so I'm not just talking out of my hat. Also with any amp I think those kind of pedals will give that muffled sound with less warmth.

  • My suggestion is to put a speaker out jack into this small amp, bypass the smaller internal speaker and use it with a 2×12 or a single 12 cab as a head, the difference is night and day. the small speaker inside this combo doesn't really do justice to the amazing tones it can produce! the amp modelling and onboard effects are next level, i've owned amps like the vox VT40+ and it really does come close. another bonus is it can run 4 ohm speakers. at only 5 watts you would not believe how loud it can go. not to mention you can pair it with nice lower watt vintage alnicos… sure it is a busking amp, but if you already have one and you aren't happy try this mod.

  • Well lately I've been playing tube amps (Marshall's mainly) cranked, and recently I've got this vox amp and I was blown away with both the loudness and the quality of the sound specially on distortion.. i was expecting to have his reaction but no I was surprised this little amp chugs and it's really loud for a 3w amp.. oh and a free tip, remove the back cover sounds fuller

  • Hello!

I have seen several reviews of yours, and it's nice. The only thing I think is missing is to show knobs settings.

Very cool reviews, I gotta say. ????????

    Bye!

  • Hello Elmo!
I don't really understand why your Vox sounds so disgusting.
Maybe because you like Roland Cube more?)))
I found some better demos of this combo. Sounds pretty good to me.

  • You don't explain enough. What are the differences between the Micro Cube and this? I have both.

  • First of all, dude you absolutely shred. Love the variety love the commentary love the inveigh mound Steen probably spelled wrong because I’m using dictation I’m totally blind I’m not typing. You’re pretty harsh on this amplifier that I’m looking to buy I don’t know why because you make the thing sound wicked good peace out.

  • The most useful guitar amp customer advice channel by far. Thanks for another honest review. That cancels another consideration for me

  • What a terrible and biased review !!! He neglects to point out that almost all 'mini / micro' style amps that you could compare too, cost more. ( some ….WAY more ) AT 0:55 he totally dismisses the fact that this Amp has it's own Microphone input. ? ! ? This AMP was built as one of the very few -'TRUE' 'Busking Amps' because it also has a * Microphone input* with Send/Trim knobs …..Who the hell listens to a 'Busker' who is just standing there banging on his guitar ??? Not Me !!! Personally, I walk right by, ( the long way if possible ) A guitar player who is also singing , great, I toss money into his case …..That shows someone who's 'trying' !!!

  • It would be nice if you have tested it without the rear cover on! Also would like to see the mini5!

  • Hi Elmo,

    congratulations for the video

I ask you, for the you have used only the vox or have you also used some pedal.

Since I am a novice please explain to me how to configure it to get the sounds of the video.

I have the same vox with a squier affinity

    Thank you so much

  • Dude it’s a portable practice amp if you were expecting an AC 30 ??? For battery ???? and an option to bring to work/park/beach it’s better than most
