That P bass doesn’t quite cut through as needed for this track IMO…
Joe Dart also 'ripped off' ???? Jaco Pastorius in 'Dean Town', referring to Weather Report's 'Teen Town'. Love it when accomplished players show us what inspired them, and make something new, yet recognisable out of that????
The jazz rules are that they are "quotes" or "tributes" not "rip offs" 🙂
Joe is AWESOME, but BERNARD EDWARDS is the source of all this kind if thing, James Jamesrson is amazing, but for this stuff, it's all Bernard
He’s also paying homage to the Barney Miller Theme. 4:22
EVERYONE has ripped BE!
He didn't steal anything. Just playing a musicman with flats thats all
U ALL "Rip us OFF"!! LOL!!
You cut the ocarina!
I would call Joe Dart a poseur if he DIDN'T rip off Edwards.
More VULFPECK please! (And maybe some more PRIMUS! LETS GO!) – You two THUMP! Love the longer videos as well… So much awesome content here! Cheers from Canada!
It’s also has some “Barney Miller” theme song flavorings in it.
Please have a look at Pretty Green by The Jam, simple but perfect
Break my Heart by Dua Lipa is also a 3 on E bassline
Learning funk from 2 white guys are you serious
Antwaun Stanley explains in the lyrics 3 on E is an ancient funk secret passed down orally lol. This video is just more proof of that concept ???? vulfpeck being musically prophetic yet again
Nailed the basic structure down in about ten hours. Working on timing now…
Three on E has always just sounded like a funkier version of the old Barney Miller TV Theme, especially the ending of each phrase.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmiC0C6Dkgo <– for reference.
I just noticed Good Times, Another One Bites The Dust, 3 On E, and Hollywood Swinging are all in different keys. I smell an Idea for explaining modes here lol
Hello I can hear the first part sounds like kool and the gang Hollywood swinging and the second part sound like the bass line for the start up song on barnyard Miller old TV show that what I hear don't think anything was stolen just great bass lines
He also paid homage to Rocco Prestia on 'Dean Town'.
Bernard is a Master and Joe a little Elf (ridiculous)
All these songs came after good times
???? sure he did
Interestingly, if you get a chance to see Vulfpeck's performance at Bonaroo, they actually kick off 3 on E with a medley of all the songs you pointed out here. I heard that and immediately recalled this episode. Good stuff…
Joe dart couldn't touch Benard Edwards on his best day. Also Cleary he's been influenced be Chic. Its funny how black music has always been appropriated by others but is rarely ever celebrated on the same level. Its the Elvis syndrome .Side note I'm not sure where you guys are located . But if you (or anyone else who reads this ) are even in NYC . You should go check out the great Fred Thomas . From the original JB's (James brown) . This man lives in BK and does regular gigs and master classes . Although you get the master class for the cost of entry at one of his regular gigs.
@nd pass sounds like a small tribute to the TV show Barney Miller theme song.
If you're NOT ripping off Bernard Edwards, are you even playing funk bass?
The Joe Dart bass is based on a Sterling not a Stingray.
you guys together, rock!!
Thank Goodness the Smell 0 Vision is out of commission… Happy Dads Day Fellas..!!
Ian always loves to think he's the best. He thinks his bass is better, the way he plays it is better. His bass did not sound better than Scott's P Bass. He's annoying, Scott handles him well by not arguing with his foolishness.
Hi Scott Could you please go over a tutorial on a tune called LOAD by the bassist LABEX?
Joe Dart and vulfpeck rip off everyone and they know it! It’s a music appreciation project. They aren’t bringing anything new to the musical conversation whatsoever and they’re not trying to.
I don't think I've ever payed an original bass line in my life, even in bands where we made original music. Everything seems to have been done under the sun, when you dig deep enough.
A Wal and an Antigua Jazz, what’s next?
Cory Wong has one of the best touring bands out right now
They are all insane monster players
A lot of Vulf songs are homages to classic funk songs.
Come for the funky bass lines, stay for the dad math joke
more like Chic + the theme from Barney Miller.
I’ve ripped off Bernard Edwards, I just didn’t do it as well as Joe Dart
Influence nothing else.. great line to from Joe
